Man arrested after spending night on British Parliament roof

 

A man was arrested Sunday after spending the night wandering around on the roof of the British parliament.

 

The 23-year-old man, who has not been identified, spent around eight hours on top of the Palace of Westminster in London after first being spotted late Saturday.

 

Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to the scene, with police negotiators also in attendance.

It is still unclear who the man was and why he was on the roof.

 

“At 05:01 a.m. [0501 GMT] on Sunday the man was detained,” London’s Scotland Yard police headquarters said in a statement.

 

“He was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and trespassing. He has been taken to a central London police station pending further enquiries.

 

“At this stage it is too early to ascertain the reason as to why the man was trespassing on the roof.”

The BBC said the man was on his own, moving around a lot and seemed calm, with his hands in his pockets, staring down at the onlookers on the ground.

 

The roof has been the scene of stunts by campaigners in the past, including by protesters demonstrating against plans for a third runway at London Heathrow Airport in 2008, and by Greenpeace a year later.

Middle East ound teenagers stopped at Sydney airport

 

Australia Sunday said it stopped two teenage brothers at Sydney Airport believed to be heading to the Middle East to fight, amid growing concern in Western countries over young people joining jihadist groups.

Immigration Minister Peter Dutton said the two boys, aged 16 and 17 and from Sydney, had tickets to an undisclosed Middle Eastern country and raised the suspicions of customs officers on Friday night.

A university lecturer is suing his ex-wife for £83,500 after she allegedly swapped his sperm for an ex-lover’s while undergoing fertility treatment.

 

The respected academic claims he was led to believe that he was the father of a child born through in vitro fertilisation (IVF). He subsequently paid thousands of pounds in child maintenance after he and his wife divorced. A DNA test eventually revealed the child was not his.

ISIS is said to have taken a terrifying stranglehold on Nigeria after militants Boko Haram pledged allegiance to the terror group.

An audio recording believed to be from Boko Haram's leader Abubakar Shekau said the jihadists, who have been waging a six-year military campaign in northern Nigeria, were merging with ISIS.

A translation of the Arabic broadcast said: 'We announce our allegiance to the Caliph... and will hear and obey in times of difficulty and prosperity.'

According to Bishop Kayode Williams, the coordinator of the programme, the ministers of God will come together to seek divine support for Buhari and Osinbajo.

Widow and daughters keep husband's dead body in a room for two years

The corpse of a man who died over two years ago but was concealed in a room by his widow and children has been uncov­ered.

The incident happened at 14, Mustapha Street, Ojokoro area of Lagos State.

The deceased, one Hassan, it was gathered, died two years ago at the age of 65 but his widow in connivance with his children allegedly kept the news of his death secret and locked up his corpse in one of the rooms in their house.

Step-father bite off step-son's ear

 

There was confusion on Saturday in the Ebute Meta area of Lagos State after a truck loader, Udeme Inim, 30, allegedly bit off his stepson’s ear.

The incident happened around 11am on Asaka Street, off Abule-Nla Road, Ebute Meta West.

It was gathered that there had been a disagreement between Inim and his wife, which had led to the suspect assaulting her.  It was learnt that when the victim, Christopher Bassey, intervened, Inim left his wife and attacked him.

Robbers kill hotel manager for trailing them

Tragedy struck in the Noforija, Epe area of Lagos State after a robbery gang stabbed to death a hotel manager, Oduwobi Olalekan.  The incident happened on Wednesday around 10pm in the 12/30 Hotel where the 40-year-old was a manager.

It was learnt that the hotel is owned by a government official in the state.

An eyewitness and a resident, Semiu Abiodun stated  that the robbers had sneaked into the community without being seen by security men.

Senator Tinubu in his reaction has come out to say that the former Minister of Aviation, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode, left the All Progressives Congress because the APC as a party refused to influence the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to drop the charges against him.

Dead Delta State University lecturer and two others dismissed for misconduct

 

A dead lecturer, who was accused of rape before his demise, has been dismissed alongside two others by the authorities of the Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka.

 

While the deceased don, identified as Mr Ifeanyi Ogu-Raphael of the Department of Theatre Arts, was accused of raping a female student, the two others were given dismissed over unprofessional conducts.

When the case came up, the woman told the court that she married her husband after her first marriage failed.

The mother of three revealed that  before she packed into her husband’s house, as the tradition demanded, she was invited into his parents house.

Corporal kills Police Commander in Bauchi

 

The commanding officer in-charge of 10 Police Mobile Force (PMF), Bauchi, Bauchi State, Superintendent of Police (SP) Chris Eza, was, on Thursday night, shot dead by a police corporal.

 

Eza, according to a statement made available on Friday by the state police command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Haruna Mohammed, was shot by the corporal at about 11:20 p.m. while on routine visit at a stop-and-search point on the Ahmadu Bello way in Bauchi metropolis.

A 32-year-old man, Chinedu Em­manuel Nnalue is now cooling his heels behind bars follow­ing his arrest by detectives of the criminal investigation department in the Anambra State police command for allegedly macheting his 59-year-old father, Nwafor Nnalue to death.
 

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hosea Karma, who confirmed the develop­ment, disclosed that the suspect equally cut the deceased’s hands and legs while muti­lating the body, Saturday Sun gathered that the late Nwafor Nnalue was living in Damaturu, Yobe State with his family until they were forced to relocate to Anambra State as a result of the Boko Haram insur­gency. It was also learnt that the suspect, Chinedu was brought up in Yobe State before he travelled to South Africa and re­turned to join his family in the state where he eventually married an indigene.
