Ebola Update: Canada to send 800 vials of Ebola vaccine to WHO

According to a BBC report, Canada is making plans to ship 800 vials of its Ebola vaccine to WHO.  The vaccine which has been tested on animals can prevent Ebola infection in them.  But it is yet to be tested on humans.  Trials will begin in US this week and WHO will conduct further tests in Europe and Africa.
 
The recent outbreak is the largest in history.  It has affected more than 10,000 humans killing more than 4,500 in Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, US, Spain and Nigeria.  As at today, there is no known cure for this disease only experimental drugs.
 
Dr Gregory Taylor, the chief public health officer of Canada, said: “This vaccine, the product of many years of scientific research and innovation, could be an important tool in curbing the outbreak.
“We will continue to work closely with the WHO to address some of the ethical and logistical issues around using this experimental vaccine in the fight against Ebola.”
 
 

Lagos State gives N50m to First Medical Consultant, and undisclosed amount to other Ebola Survivors

With the declaration of Nigeria as an Ebola free country today by WHO, Dr. Jide Idris in a media chat today at Alausa Ikeja disclosed that the Lagos State Government will be giving out N50 million to First Consultant Medical Centre, Obalende, where the Index case, Mr Patrick Sawyer died. 
The Government will also present undisclosed amount to the other Ebola casualties and survivors in view to getting them, businesses back on their feet and for businesses to re-secure patronage of their customers.
It will be recall that First Consultant Centre Obalende lost four medical personnel including the amazon Dr. Stella Adadevoh and Justina a nurse.

NYSC members to pay N4000 to access call up letters - House of Reps

The House of Representatives Committee on Youth Development has endorsed the N4000 for the on-line registration of members of National Youth Service Corp.
 
Rep. Kamil Akinlabi who revealed this today while giving updates to the press said the fund would be used to install equipment in all NYSC offices nationwide.
 
 

Popular singer dies on her child naming ceremony day

 
The above based Abeokuta popular singer Feyisayo Mojisola Oyetade also called Faycol, died on Tuesday while preparing for her baby's naming ceremony.

She was said to have collapse suddenly and was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately she was pronounced dead on arrival

Faycol got married to her producer Abayomi Oyetade in May 2014

Lagos female banker withdraws huge amount from a dead man's account

A worker of a new generation bank, Alausa branch is currently before an Igbosere Magistrate court for allegedly withdrawing N875,000 from a deceased customer's account Mr. Ayinla Adeoba Awojobi without authorization.

The accused was said to have committed this offence between 23 and 27 May 2014 at the Alausa branch of the bank; by forging the signature of the deceased and withdraws the above amount without consent from the deceased family.

It was discovered during an investigation that the accused reactivated the deceased account, replaced his photograph with that of her brother before withdrawing the amount.  She eventually ran out of luck when this terrible act was discovered during an audit of accounts by the bank.

Prince William and Duchess Kate welcomes second baby in April 2015

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Prince William and his wife Kate announced today that their baby, the 4th in line to the British throne is due in April 2014.

The couple who did not reveal if the baby being expected is going to be a boy or a girl ruled out twins.  The couple got married on April 29th, 2011.

The pregnancy was announced September 8, and the princess had to cancel several appointments due to severe hyperemesis gravidarum (severe morning sickness).

Nigeria declared Ebola free - WHO


World Health Organization has declared Nigeria Ebola-free — after more than six weeks without a new case of the disease that has claimed the lives of more than 4,500 people in West Africa, mainly in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea. 
“Nigeria is now free of Ebola,” WHO representative Rui Gama Vaz told a news conference in the capital Abuja.  “This is a spectacular success story … It shows that Ebola can be contained but we must be clear that we have only won a battle. The war will only end when West Africa is also declared free of Ebola.”

Many of our Nollywood celebrities were honoured and recongnised at the just concluded Nollywood Movies Award held over the weekend at Intercontinental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The event was hosted by Dakore Akande, Gideon Okeke, Uru Eke with TV host Denrele Edun, and Cool FM OAP Kaylah Oniwo serving as Red Carpet hosts.
Mike Ezuruonye won the best male actor award while  Ireti Doyle was awarded the best lead actress for the year.  Our very own Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh got the Nollywood Humanitarian Award.

I killed my step son because my husband refused to buy my son sallah clothes

Aminat Akanni, a mother of one is currently cooling off at the Adeniji Adele police station for the kidnapping of two of her step children and the murdering of one of them.

Moshood Mobo who is the father of both Lateef (7 years) and Nofisat (4years) had raised the alarm of their disappearance and reported same at the police station.

Speaking with PUNCH, Moshood a native of Ilorin, Kwara State, said his second wife, who he rented an apartment for in the Orile area, abducted the kids claiming that she wanted to “punish him for not buying Sallah clothes for her own son.”

He said, “I married Aminat in 2010. In order to avoid a crisis at home, I rented an apartment for her at Mosalashi Street, Alakara in Orile. She has only one son for me. His name is Yusuf. She does not come to Church Street, Lagos Island where I live with my first wife.
