APGA confirms Labaran Maku as the party's flag bearer for the governorship election in Nasarawa State

The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) has said that the controversy surrounding the party’s goverorship candidate in nasarawa State has been resolved as the name of immediate past Information Minister, Labaran Maku has been submitted and accepted by INEC.

 

The party’s National Chairman, Mr Victor Umeh has confirmed the situation.  He stated categorically, “Mr Labaran Maku is our governorship candidate in Nasarawa State. We have submitted his name and same has been accepted by INEC.

 

Breaking News: Babban Gida town in Yobe State under attack by Boko Haram

According to Weekly Trust newspaper, Suspected Boko Haram militants has launched a vicious attack on Babban Gida town, the headquarters of Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State this evening.  Babban Gida town is located 50km away from the state capital, Damaturu.

 

The attackers drove into the town around 6 pm and unleashed terror on the people of the town.

A resident, Mohammed Lurwan, said he sighted smokes and flames going up at the northern part of the town. 

 

''I'm sorry'' Madonna apologises for posting altered images of Martin Luther, Nelson Mandela to promote her new album

In a statement on her official facebook page, Madonna have apologise for posting on her instagram page photos of Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela that were altered to look like her own image on her new album.  She said ''I am not comparing myself to anyone.  I'm admiring and acknowledging their rebel hearts.''

The picture on the cover of her new album ''Rebel Heart'' is a close-up of her face with black string on it.  On her social media she also showed the faces of Martin Luther and Mandela doctored to make them appear as though they have similar string on their faces.  Some of her fans considered these alterations offensive.

Usher got into a fight and has a red eye to show for it

On Friday, 36-year-old Usher posted a close-up shot of his eye which appeared extremely sore to 2.5 million of his followers.  He captioned the picture, ''You should have seen the other guy.''

 

Rumour has it that Usher got into a brawl at a New Year's party at Miami nightclub after a male attendee insulted his 44-year-old girlfriend, Grace Miguel.

 

Despite being contacted, ushers camp has refused to confirm or deny the incident.

 

T.B Joshua invited family members of those killed in the building collapse, took them shopping and give them money

According to news report featured by Daily News, a South African newspaper, T.B. Joshua invited some of the relations of those who got killed when a guest house collapsed last year at the Church premises to Nigeria, took them shopping and later gave them money.

T.B. Joshua was also said to have taken them to the site of the collapsed building after which N50,000 was given to each of them. 

British nurse infected with the Ebola virus in critical condition

The Glaswegian nurse, Pauline Cafferkey who was diagnosed with the Ebola virus after returning to the UK from Sierra Leone is said to be in critical condition by authorities.

 

The 39-year-old nurse who is being treated at the Royal Free London Hospital since last week was reportedly sitting up and talking until the past two days when her health detoriated into critical condition.

 

 

Maasai worriors in Tanzania slaughters six lions in retaliation for attacking their livestock

Six lions have been killed and four Maasai herders injured in the latest clash between man and beast in Tanzania.

 

The incident which occurred on 1st January 2015 in the northern Babati District has saddened the Tanzanian government which stated that it will try and identify and prosecute those involved in this hideous crime.

 

Sources said the endangered species likely came from Tarangire National Park.

Popular society lady, Mrs. Adunni Bankole is dead

Chief Mrs. Adunni Bankole, society lady and step mother of former Speaker, House of Representatives is dead.  Mrs. Adunni Bankole, who was the Iyalode of Gbagura, Ogun State passed on today, 3rd January 2015 after battling with an undisclosed illness.

Mrs. Adunni died as her daughter Mopelola was getting married.  She was said to have be in coma but lost the battle today.

 

May her soul rest in perfect peace.

 

 

Romanus Orjinta, Ex-Enyimba player found dead in his house on New year's Eve

Romanus Orjinta, 33, an ex-Enyimba player, who once won the prestigious CAF Champions league was found dead in his house in Enugu on New year's Eve.  He was found by neighbours who noticed he had been missing.

Romanus Orjinta before his death was a coach.  No information as regards his death has been given.

Gov. Akpabio pardons prisoners, donates N10 million to inmates in celebration of the New Year

Gov. Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom has granted amnesty to eight prisoners serving various sentences in Uyo, Calabar, Ikot-Ekpene and Port Harcourt in the spirit of the New Year celebration.

Akpabio made the announcement when he visited Uyo Prisons on Friday. He converted the death sentence of six other inmates to life imprisonment and also donated N10 million to other inmates for medical attention.

 

Those pardoned from Uyo, Calabar and Ikot-Ekpene Prisons were; Ofonime Udoh, Mbong Udobong, Akpan Akpan, Uweh Okon, Emmanuel Inyang, Udo Isonguyo, Bassey George and Edem Etim.  The six converted from death to life imprisonment were Ndifreke Ekanem, Samuel Ekanem, Patrick Ekene, Oduok Jimmy, Charles Isong and Eyakeno Imoh serving in Port Harcourt Prisons.

5 men arrested in India for kidnapping and raping a Japanese tourist

Five men have been arrested in connection with the alleged kidnapping and rape of a Japanese tourist who said she was held captive for 12 days.

 

The 22-year-old woman said she had been lured to the Gaya district in the state of Bihar, the site of one of India’s holiest Buddhist temples, from Kolkata in late November by a man posing as a tourist guide. When they arrived at the destination, two other men were waiting, and she was held at gunpoint and gang-raped, she told the police.

$20,000 stolen from Church during Christmas mass

A Westchester County church is regrouping to gather donations after someone stole $20,000 in contributions from the office during Christmas Day Mass.

The thief apparently pried open a back door during the 11 a.m. Mass at the Church of the Magdalene in Tarrytown, the Journal News reported.

Then the thief got into a desk drawer holding donations collected during two Masses on Christmas Eve.

Girl, 7, who lost all members of her family in a plane crash walks away free

A seven-year-old girl survived a plane crash that killed four people - and wandered from the wreckage to raise the alarm, US police say. 

The light aircraft came down in a heavily wooded area of Lyon County, in western Kentucky.

 

A resident called officers when the distraught girl walked to his home and told him she had been in a plane crash.

Al-Qaeda suspect facing trial in New York dies in custody

A suspected Al Qaueda leader who was to go on trial in New York this month for his alleged role in the 1998 bombings of two American Embassies in East Africa died in government custody yesterday night due to complications from longstanding medical problems, federal prosecutors said.
 

The man, Nazih Abdul-Hamed al-Ruqai, also known as Abu Anas al-Libi, had had liver cancer. On Wednesday, he was taken to a hospital in New York from the Metropolitan Correctional Center, where he had been held since shortly after American commandos captured him in Libya in October 2013.

 

President Jonathan cannot fight corruption even if given 60 years - APC Lai Mohammed

The All Progressives Congress says President Goodluck Jonathan cannot fight corruption even if he is given 60 years to rule Nigeria.

 

The APC said this in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, while reacting to a promise by Jonathan that he would institute anti-corruption programmes if re-elected next month.

The APC said Jonathan’s inability to tackle corruption was not surprising as “a corrupt government can never fight corruption.”

Boko Haram abducts more than 40 young men in Malari village in Borno State

According to Sahara Reporters, Boko Haram militants have kidnapped a new set of youths, numbering about 40, in Malari village in southern Borno State, fleeing residents said today

.

The Boko Haram group stormed Malari, in Damboa Local Government area, on the eve of the New Year at about 9pm and abducted the youths.

Ali Mallami, who fled the area into Maiduguri, said the militants forcibly gathered all the males in the village supposedly for preaching, and thereafter left with many of them.

Jennifer Lopez ready to move on, finally drops Marc Anthony surname

She has carried the name Jennifer Muniz since getting married to Marc Anthony in 2004.  She just changed her surname back to her maiden name on 31st December 2014.

 

The 45-year-old had taken on the surname of her former husband Marco Muniz when they got married.

 

Jennifer and Marc split in 2011 after seven years of marriage.

 

Marc Anthony is now married to Venezuelan model Shannon De Lima, who is 26-years-old.
