First Class University graduate jailed for defrauding an American woman $12,000

An Ikeja High Court in Lagos today sentenced a 23-year old first-class graduate from Lead City University, Ibadan, Olakunle Akanni, for defrauding an American woman, Diana Huizenga $12,000 through an internet love scam.

Justice Lateef Lawal-Akapo sentenced Akanni to one year imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to the offence during his re-arraignment.

He said the sentences were to run concurrently beginning from the day the judgment was delivered.

Femi Kuti signs management deal with Chocolate City

Afrobeat star Femi Kuti has signed a contract deal with Chocolat City to manage his musical affairs in Nigeria.  He made the announcement today via his twitter handle.  See the tweets below.
 
 
 

 
Chocolate City was founded by Lawyer/Entrepreneur Audu Maikon, Paul Okeugo and Yahaya Maikon.  They have on their platform artists like M.I., Ice Prince etc.

Rihanna celebrated with her grandfather who turned 86 years

Yesterday our own girl RiRi stepped out at the Nobu restaurant to celebrate with her grand father who turned 86 years  She was looking chic as usual in a silver grey knitted tunic with a matching trouser combo.

Surprisingly our RiRi was covered up  from top to bottom.  She accessorised with oversized hooped earrings and a Louis Vuitton box purse.

OMG!  The Head of Programming at Ebonylife TV, Pamela Ofoegbu is dead.  She died today after a battle with cancer.  This is so sad!  RIP Pamela.




A security guard has been fired for riding the elevator with President Barack Obama armed with a gun

A security guard, Kenneth Tate has had his appointment terminated after he rode an elevator with President Barack Obama in September armed with a .40 calibre head gun.
 
An employee with the firm, Professional Security Corporation, Kenneth has worked at the CDC for 11 years during which time he escorts the agency's commissioners and other visiting dignitaries.
 

Ebola Update: Fresh Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone raises fears of a new infection chain

A fresh out break of the Ebola virus in Koinadugu, a town in Sierra Leone which has prided itself on being the only town to have kept the Ebola virus at bay; has raised new fears of a new, uncontrollable infection chain that could send the death toll soaring.
 
The Red Cross had to send an ambulance to the remote town to urgently pick up 30 corpses for medical burial.  There were reports of further 25 people ill with the virus and another 255 being monitored.
 

Man fake own death to defraud an insurance company

Banjo Omotosho, 35, and his wife Ebun, 29 are currently standing trial before the Somolu Magistrate Court for allegedly forging a death certificate and his wife attempting to use same to defraud an insurance company of N1.08millon.
 
It was gathered that Banjo had taken a life insurance policy in May 2014 from the insurance company under another name Ojo Alabi Kingsley and made his wife Ebun as the next of kin.
 
However, by August, Ebun approached the insurance company claiming that Banjo died in an accident and want to claim the benefit of the N1.08million attached to the policy.  She tendered a forged death certificate signed by a Dr. Lawal and dated May 29.
 
The insurance company who was said to be in the final stages of verification of claim got to know about the scam when residents of the purported address where Banjo had lived denied knowing them.
 
They were arrested and charged to court on three count of conspiracy, forging and intent to defraud, which are offences punishable under sections 361, 21 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State

Boko Haram practising full Sharia law, behead and amputates hands of 'convicted' persons

Mubi town in Adamawa State which was re-captured by the Boko Haram insurgents last week is now being ruled by The Sharia law.
 
Ten residents of the town who were said to have been found guilty by the insurgents had their hands amputated for offences ranging from stealing, fleeing etc.  The victims were said to have been amputated in the presence of residents who the insurgents ask to converge to witness the enforcement of Sharia law.  Two imams found guilty of preaching again the atrocities of the sect were also beheaded.
 

A policeman kills own son and crushed his wife's legs

A police Corporal is alleged to have used a bus to crush his wife's legs and stabbed his toddler son to death at Kale Close in Mafoluku Lagos.
 
The accused, 35-year-old Lucky Ikharia, who hails from Sabon Gida Ora Edo State had a misunderstanding with his wife, Dupe over alleged theft of his N2000.  This made him to send her packing  and took the only child of the marriage from her.
