These are the shocking pictures taken by a landlord of his house left stacked with empty bottles, cigarette ends and food scraps.

This is how one resident lived for several years, in the home filled with so much rubbish they weren't able to see their own carpet, let alone walk on it.

The landlord was left to clear it up when he entered his property after the long-term tenant, who has not been named, moved out.

The families of two schoolgirls who are feared to have fled Britain to join Islamic State have issued heartfelt pleas urging them not to cross the border into Syria.
 
The missing teenagers are Shamima Begum, 15, Kadiza Sultana, 16, and a 15-year-old German girl, who has not been named at the request of her family. 
 
The trio, who all attended Bethnal Green Academy in east London, are now at the centre of an international hunt after being captured on airport CCTV on Tuesday.

The Virgin founder was spotted in Notting Hill pushing a double pram carrying the twin babies of his daughter Holly Branson.
He stopped by the Petit Bateau store to put his well-earned money to good use and buy some things for his first pair of grandchildren.

Nigeria military has recaptured Baga town from Boko Haram



Nigeria’s military on today claimed to have retaken the town of Baga from Boko Haram, the scene of what is feared to have been the Islamist militants’ worst atrocity of the six-year insurgency.

“Troops have this afternoon captured #BAGA after fierce battle with terrorists. Heavy Casualties. Mopping up ongoing. Details later,” the military said on its Twitter account @defenceinfoNG.

The black Frenchman who was the victim of racist abuse by Chelsea football fans on the Paris Metro has received a personal message from President Francois Hollande.

The president took the unusual step of speaking to Souleymane S. on the telephone on Friday to express his sympathy over his ordeal.

“President @fhollande spoke to Souleymane S and offered his support over the odious racial attack he suffered,” the Elysee announced on its Twitter account.

Bomb blast kills 4 in Assad hometown


A car bomb went off in a town in Syria's coastal city of Latakia on Saturday, killing four people, and injuring others, a pro-government radio and opposition activists said. 

The car tore through a parking lot of a hospital in the town of Qirdaha in the countryside of Latakia, hometown of President Bashar al-Assad, said the Sham FM radio.

Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola (SAN) has said that his administration has done a lot to improve the living condition of the citizenry.
Speaking at an interactive session with State House correspondents at his Marina residence on Friday night, Fashola said that his administration had added value to governance.
 
He described attacks on his administration by the opposition as “unfair”, insisting that he had done so much to improve the living standard of the people since he assumed office in 2007.

Merkel and Pope Francis discuss Ukraine at a Vatican private meeting


 
German Chancellor Angela Merkel on a visit to the Vatican on Saturday met with Pope Francis and discussed efforts to end the bloody conflict in Ukraine.
 
Mrs Merkel, who played a key role in negotiating the latest ceasefire, had a private audience with the pope where the two underlined their "commitment to reaching a peaceful solution to the conflict in Ukraine", a Vatican statement said.

At least 40 people are believed to have died in suicide attacks carried out by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant group in eastern Libya, apparently in retaliation for Egyptian air strikes against ISIL's new branch in North Africa.
 
Friday's bombings in the town of Quba, which is controlled by the paramilitary force of former General Khalifa Haftar, added to concerns that ISIL has spread beyond the battlefields of Iraq and Syria and established a foothold in North Africa.

The suit’s yellow pinstripes, upon closer examination, proved to be tiny lines of script spelling out Mr. Modi’s name.

Ebola: Liberia to reopen borders, lift curfew


Liberia is said to reopen its land border crossings shut down during the Ebola outbreak, a positive sign in a nation that was the epicentre of the deadly virus.
 
President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf also lifted a nationwide curfew imposed in August to help combat the virus. Her orders, which go into effect Sunday, come the same week schools reopen after a five-month hiatus.

Covenant University ranked best in Nigeria and West Africa


 
In a recent release of Webometrics ranking of World Universities, Covenant University has emerged overall best in both the webometrics and repositories rankings of universities in Nigeria and West Africa.  The university is ranked 15th and 13th in both webometrics and repositories in Africa respectively.

According to the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Charles Ayo, the ranking is one of the best any university in Nigeria had ever achieved.

The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Salihu Garba, said the police command arrested a 2013 graduate of Industrial Chemistry from Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, Mr. Ogirimah Momoh, for illegal possession of fire-arms, impersonation and criminal intimidation.

Garba said that about 12.20pm on Friday, Mr. Al-Amin Lukman from Tanke, Ilorin, the Kwara State capital reported at E. Division Kulende, Ilorin that one Momoh came to his shop at Zango in Ilorin and threatened his unnamed employee with a Beretta pistol No. A07078Z.

Police blamed me for my daughter's rape - mother of raped 8-year-old girl


 
Thirty-six-year-old Sola Adebisi was sobbing when she narrated the incident of her daughter’s rape on Thursday. She wasn’t sobbing because of the sexual attack on her eight-year-old daughter, Lola (not real name), who was defiled by a security guard but because she and her daughter are now being victimised by the police for reporting the case.
 

“One of the policemen even said to my face ‘Like daughter like mother.’ Are they implying my daughter deserved to be sexually assaulted?” she said.
