Fake EFCC syndicate in Ondo State nabbed

According to an official press release from the EFCC office, a deadly syndicate of fraudsters with their head office at Akure, Ondo State  from where they operate are currently in EFCC net. 

Arrested head of this syndicate, who parades himself as a Principal Detective of the EFCC is identified as Olubunmi Olalekan.

The syndicate who sends out bulk invitation letters to as many government agencies as possible will claim to be investigating alleged corruption petitions against such agencies.  They then asked to be reached by a telephone number on the letter.  Those who fall for this scam are then asked to pay certain amount of money for the case to be dropped.


Reduce my monthly child support to my baby daddy - Halle Berry

Halle Berry has brought her baby daddy, Gabriel Aubry before a judge asking for her monthly child support to her estranged husband be reduced from $16,000 to $3000.

Halle claims in her legal documents that Gabriel (her baby daddy) has sopped working and that he is contented living off the child support.  She claims it is an abuse of the system because Gabriel is very much capable of getting a job.

Halle and Gabriel has joint custody of the child they had together.

INEC to distribute Permanent Voter Cards in 13 States beginning from November 7th

The Independent National Commission (INEC) has approved the distribution of permanent voter cards in 13 states in the third phase of the exercise from Friday 7th November up till Sunday 9th November 2014.

The states are:  Adamawa, Borno, Edo, Imo, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Lagos, Nassarawa, Niger, Ogun, Plateau and Rivers states respectively.

1000 Boko Haram members arrested in South West

The Sarkin Hausawa of Lagos State, Alhaji Sani Kabir has disclosed that more than 1000 members of the Boko Haram insurgents were arrested in different parts of South West.

Kabir who gave this shocking revelation in Abuja during a courtesy visit of the Arewa Council of Chiefs in South West to the Minister of Special Duties said those arrested were Boko Haram members who fled from the civilian/JTF military onslaught on the insurgents in the North Eastern part of the country.


FG, Boko Haram agree on ceasefire

Nigeria's presidency says it has agreed a ceasefire with militants Boko Haram which would see the return of 219 kidnapped girls.
Air Marshal Alex Badeh, chief of defence staff, said: "A ceasefire agreement has been concluded between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Jama'atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda'awati wal Jihad (Boko Haram)."

The president's principal secretary Hassan Tukur told the AFP news agency that an agreement to end hostilities had been reached after talks with the Islamist group.

No Hijab in Lagos public schools - Ikeja High Court

Justice Modupe Onyeabor of Ikeja High Court today upheld the ban on the wearing of Hijab - Muslim head scarf in both public primary and secondary schools in Lagos State.  The suit was instituted against the state government by two 12-year old students.
 
The state government had banned the use of hijab on the argument that it was not part of the approved school uniform for pupils in Lagos public schools.  The two students later filed a suit in May 2013 seeking redress and asking the court to declare the ban as illegal and a violation of their right to freedom.
 
 

US Vice President son sacked from the Navy for cocaine use

US Vice President Joe Biden's son Hunter Biden has been discharged from the US Navy Reserve after testing positive for cocaine use.

According to the Washington Post, Hunter was discharged earlier this year after failing the test.  He came out with a statement saying;

"It was the honour of my life to serve in the US Navy, and I deeply regret and am embarrassed that my actions led to my administrative discharge," Hunter Biden said. "I respect the Navy's decision. With the love and support of my family, I'm moving forward."

No comment yet from either his father's office nor that of the US Navy.

ALhaji Basiru Ahmed, 67 years, father to Adijat Adisa has prayed on the Alikuko Cutsomary court Lagos to dissolve the 17 years marriage of his daughter to Najimu Adisa.

Basuri Ahmed who maintained he can no longer stand the humiliation and beating he receives from his son-in-law Najimu Adisa said;

“Najimu beat me while I was preventing him from beating my daughter during one of their fighs, I won’t forget that day in a hurry. 


Balotelli denies reports of engaging in sex hours before a match

Mario Balotelli has seriously denied reports making rounds in Italian media that he engages in sex hours before a match. However, the player has laughed off such rumour saying;
 
“Someone told me recently that I had apparently said that if I have sex three or four hours before a game, it is working for me on the pitch,” Balotelli told Sport.
 
“Trust me, if I am having sex for hours before a game, I am not able to play.
“I don’t think anyone could. It makes me laugh, but this is not me.”
 
 
 

Oscar Pistorius sentencing adjourned till Tuesday

Judge Thokozile Masipa is expected to deliver her sentence on Tuesday.

The sentencing hearing of Oscar Pistorius has heard that the athlete has no money left.

Pistorius was convicted of culpable homicide last month after shooting dead is girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp last year.  He faces up to 15 years in jail.  But the judge may choose a suspended sentence or impose a fine instead.

The prosecution team is pushing for the maximum sentence while  Pistorius defence team has argued for a lesser sentence such as community service.

Kirikiri riot update: Deputy Controller of Prisons accused of diverting food meant for inmates

The cause of the riot that took place a the Ikoyi Medium Prisons last week has been alleged to be the diversion of food meant for the inmates by the Deputy Controller of the prisons.
 
According to Christopher Dibia also called G.O. during a fact finding visit of Human Rights Commission accused the Deputy Controller of the prisons of this allegations.
 
“The problem started when a new Deputy Controller of Prison was posted here and he addressed us on the field. He said he didn’t want to see phones and Indian hemp in the yard.
 
 

Two children 6 and 8 years raped and test positive to HIV virus

On Thursday, 16th October 2014, a 32 year old man Terkura Lorpu was arraigned before a magistrate court in Benue State for raping and infecting two young children aged six and eight years with the HIV virus.
 

Ayodele Peter Fayose is the Governor of Ekiti State; demotes eight Permanent Secretaries during his inauguratation

Thousands of supporters trooped out in different colours of attire to grace the inauguration of Ayodele Peter Fayose as the new Governor of Ekiti State for the next four years.
 
The people sang praises of the governor who was decked in a white dansiki and sokoto with a cap done in PDP colours.  He arrived at the inauguration venue at exactly 12.40pm accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Feyisetan Fayose who was dressed in  green attire.
