12-year-old Nigerian film writer listed by Elle magazine as one of 33 women who impacted the world in 2014



12-year-old Zuriel Oduwole was listed with 33 other women as those who impacted the world in 2014. 

Zuriel Oduwole is a film maker, a girl child advocate and she has interviewed so many personalities including presidents.

She will be featured in the magazine's global North America edition (ELLE Canada) for the March 2015 edition.

UK police believe the three missing schoolgirls have crossed into Syria


British police said on Tuesday they believed that three London schoolgirls who travelled to Turkey and are thought to be trying to join militant Sunni Islamist group Islamic State, have now crossed into Syria.
Friends Amira Abase, 15, Shamima Begum, 15, and Kadiza Sultana, 16, flew to Istanbul from London on Feb. 17.

A north Texas real estate agent was allegedly shot and killed by her husband while she spoke with a 911 operator who she'd called for help. 

Lavera Aiken Dooley was reportedly trying to get help and trying to leave her home when she was gunned down in her driveway Thursday night as an emergency dispatcher listened in horror. 
 

Sheriff's deputiee rushed to the Pecan Plantation gated community, located about 40 miles southwest of Ft. Worth, around 10 p.m. Thursday. They found the 65-year-old woman slumped over in her car, shot multiple times. 

Fashola lied again regarding my tax - Agbaje

 

The Lagos Peoples Democratic Pary Governorship candidate, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, has said that Governor Babatund Fashola of Lagos State lied again on his company’s tax.

The PDP gubernatorial candidate said that for Fashola to say that he has now paid N500,000 is a lie, and that there is no truth in the governor’s statement.

“There is no truth in this latest piece of misinformation that the Governor is spreading around. He lied again, giving the impression that my company paid money after his initial outburst and his first lie.

Ruling party and opposition lawmakers turned the Turkish parliament into a battlefield once again Tuesday during an 18-hour session debating a contentious bill to broaden police powers.
 
Several deputies were injured in a third outbreak of serious fighting within a week in the Turkish parliament, as the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) seeks to push through the contentious homeland security bill, which critics claim could turn Turkey back into a police state.  More photos below .....
 

12 killed in Kano motor park bomb explosion


 
Twelve person have been killed after a bomb went off in Kano today.
The blast, which  occurred at the Kano Line motor park, was carried out by two male suicide bombers within the ages of 15 and 16.
This attack is coming hours after at least 15 persons died and 53 others were injured after a female suicide bomber detonated a bomb at the Tashar Dan-Borno Motor Park in Potiskum town, Yobe State, Nigeria’s north-east region.

Eight people shot dead by a gunman in a Czech restaurant

 
Eight people have been killed after a shooting at a restaurant in the eastern Czech Republic.

The Czech Interior Minister Milan Chovanec confirmed the shooting and also said that the suspected gunman is dead following the attack. 

A police spokesman confirmed the shooting in the town of Uhersky Brod, which is 180 miles south east of Prague, but declined to comment on any of the victims. The mayor of the town Patrik Kuncar said that the shooter was a local mentally unstable man aged around 60. 

American Female Missionary abducted in Kogi State by unknown gunmen

 
According to Sky News, some unidentified gunmen kidnapped a female American missionary, Miss Phyllis Sortor in Kogi State on Monday.  Ms. Phyllis Sortor is said to be a member of the Free Methodist Church. 
 
Kogi State police spokesman Sola Adebayo, told newsmen that ‘’she was whisked away at around 10.00am on Monday.   The kidnappers were unknown gunmen who came into the school premises shooting sporadically to scare away people before taking the hostage away into the bushes. 
 
A statement on the church’s website also confirmed the incident.   It reads, 
 
‘’Dear Friends,
 
Early this morning we receive a report that Rev. Phyllis Sortor, our missionary in Nigeria, was abducted from the Hope Academy compound in Emiworo, Kogi State, Nigeria by several people.  The US Embassy has been notified, and the State Department and the FBI are working with local authorities to find and rescue her.  We are calling on the US church to join together in prayer for Phyllis safety and speedy release.''

Ebonyi State House of Assembly razed to the ground by fire


 
The Ebonyi State House of Assembly was at the early hours of today razed down by fire.  The fire which was said to have stated in the accounts department spread to the media section of the complex. 
The fire according to a source, destroyed many properties including sensitive documents of the House.

Former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, on Monday, said he had no official account on either Twitter, Facebook and other social media network.

 
A twitter account, @newsvergeonline was said to have on Sunday posted a tweet that  the former president described the Director of Media and Publicity of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Organisation (PDPPCO) Femi Fani-Kayode, as a “democracy wrecker.”
 
Obasanjo said all his previous accounts on Facebook and Twitter had since being blocked.

Lagos State House of Assembly to recognise and honour a girl who found and returned N12 million to its owner


A cleaner with one of the cleaning concessionaires at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Josephine Agwu has received an invitation to appear before the Lagos State House of Assembly for her honourable act of having found and returned a large sum of money to the owner. 

Josephine Agwu who is said to be returning lost but found money for the third time, was said to have of recent found and returned the sum of 12 million to the owner.
 

My parents knew I was into armed robbery - Suspect


 
A suspected member of an armed robbery gang, Mutiu Rasheed, who was arrested by the Lagos State Police Command, has said his parents were aware that he was an armed robber.
 
According to Punch, Rasheed, along with two others ─ Ahmed Musiliu and Sodiq Dada ─ were nabbed by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad on February 5.
 
It was gathered that the three suspects were rounded up by the police in the Isheri Berger area ─ a boundary area between Lagos and Ogun states.

The police in Lagos have arrested a fake Deputy Superintendent of Customs, Ramoni Raji, who along with two others allegedly duped their victims of not less than N5m in auction sales. 

It was learnt that Raji, with the other suspects ─ Usman Ibrahim and Adekunle Thomas ─ was apprehended on Tuesday, February 17, in the Gowon Estate area of Lagos. They were arrested by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.  While Raji disguised as a DSC, Thomas pretended to be Raji’s driver, while Ibrahim was in charge of giving out bank account for victims to pay.

According to the Director of Defence Information, Major Gen. Chris Olukolade in a statement on Monday stated that troops involved in the ongoing counter terrorism operation in the North-East have arrested a number of terrorists who disguised as women in Baga, Borno State.
 
He also added that the troops also arrested many terrorist that where hiding in Baga apart from those captured during the battle to liberate the town.  Several arms and bombs which were hidden in different locations were also discovered.
 
He said, “The cordon and search in Baga has revealed some terrorists disguising as women.
“The searches are also yielding more discoveries of arms especially bombs hidden in various locations, especially Baga town.
 
“Apart from those captured in the course of fighting, many terrorists hiding in the town are being arrested and troops are still busy interrogating the suspects.
 
“In furtherance of the mission to clear terrorists from all their enclaves by the military, the Nigerian Air Force has stepped up its air bombardments of identified targets in Gwoza, Bama and Sambisa forest, preparatory to other phases of the mission.
 
“The air strikes have been highly successful as they achieved the aims, hitting vital targets with required precision. Terrorists are now in disarray as they scamper to escape from the impact of air bombardment of their locations in the forest.”
