EFCC takes two to court for currency counterfeiting

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, today arraigned the duo of Sunday Kogi and James Gideon before Justice A. Kafarati of the Federal High Court Maitama, Abuja on a three count charge bordering on currency counterfeiting.
 
The accused persons are alleged to be members of a syndicate which specializes in counterfeiting foreign currency and duping unsuspecting members of the public.

Governor Sullivan Chime pulls out of senate race

A confirmation from the Press Secretary to the Governor Chime, Chukwudi Achife states that the Enugu State Governor has dropped his bid to go to the senate in 2015.
 
Governor Chime whose tenure will elapse in 2015 have been in a running battle with Senator Ike Ekweremadu over the Enugu West Senatorial seat.
 
Sources said the Governor and Ike Ekweremeadu had an agreement which will see the governor producing most of the party's key candidates including the flag bearer in the governorship election.  And in turn the governor will drop his ambition of seeking election to the senate.
 
 
 

Ebola Update: A Nigerian soldier tests positive to the Ebola virus in Liberia

A Nigerian UN peace keeping soldier stationed in Liberia has tested positive to the Ebola virus.  According to the UN, he will be flown to the Netherlands this weekend and will be placed on isolation at the University Medical Centre, Utrecht.
 
This is the third infection for the mission which comprises of about 7,700 troops of soldiers and police.  The previous two infections were fatal.
 
Sixteen people who had contact with the infected soldier had all be placed on quarantine.
 
 
 

Balotelli may face a ban for his racist and anti-semitic comments on social media

Liverpool's Mario Balotelli has been charged by the FA over alleged racist comments which he posted on his instagram page.  Balotelli posted the Nintendo character super Mario with the words ''jump like a black man and grab coins like a Jew.''
 

Nelson Mandela's wife, Graca Machel remembers him today, see what she said about Madiba

Machel who spoke about Mandela’s passing for the first time at a wreath-laying ceremony at the Union Buildings in Pretoria, held to mark the first anniversary of the icon’s death said,
 
“On the day of Nelson Mandela's passing I was not able to think. I was numb. But now looking back I can imagine him tall and proud, walking and beaming with his contagious smile,” said the late former president’s wife.  
“The body gave in but Madiba’s spirit never changed. He was always the same to the very end,” said Machel.
“Even today, I know Madiba is happy because he is amongst family. He is with Walter Sisulu, Oliver Tambo, Lilian Ngoyi, Ruth First, Joe Slovo, Yusuf Dadoo, Ma Sisulu – many of his brothers and sisters who had been with him on his journey all through his adult life.
 
 

Keith Martin, the fattest man in the world dies, aged 44

The world fattest man, British Keith Martin who weighed 70 stone (444.5 kg) is dead.  He died of pneumonia aged 44 years.
 
Keith had been bed-bound, unable to walk and at a point had not left his North London home for 10 years.
 
He was at his heaviest consuming a total of 20,000 calories a day.  His daily food consumption includes six egg fry ups for breakfast, then pizzas, kebabs, Chinese takeaways and Big Mac for lunch and dinner, all washed down with six pints of coffee and two litres of fizzy drinks.
 


Fake army captain to spend 7 years in jail for defrauding people of money to provide fake jobs

Justice P.I. Ajoku of the Federal High Court, Benin, Edo State today convicted and sentenced one Emmanuel Sunday (alias Umoh Sunday Iyang, Iyang Samuel Chukwudi) to seven and half years imprisonment without an option of fine for obtaining money under false pretence.
 
The convict was arraigned by the Economic and Financial crimes Commission, EFCC, on March 19, 2014 on an 8-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence. He pleaded not guilty to the count charge.
 

Damien Gurganious of The Biggest Loser season 7 dies at 38

Tragedy has struck The Biggest Loser family.
 
Damien Gurganious, who was part of the season 7 reality show is dead.  He died after suffering from a sudden onset of a rare autoimmune disorder that made him to bleed in the brain.  He was 38 years old.
 
His family say, ''he was a pillar of his family, an amazing son, brother, cousin and uncle. ''He was an incredible husband and father to his 2-year old daughter, Gisele.  He was an inspiration and a mentor to so many.  His love for his family was immense.''

ICC Prosecutors drops charges against Kenyan President

Prosecutors at the International Criminal Court withdrew their crimes against humanity charges against Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta today Friday, but said they could bring new charges if they found new evidence.
 
Judges on Wednesday gave prosecutors a week to firm up their charges against Kenyatta, who was accused of fomenting ethnic violence in Kenya after elections in 2007, or withdraw the charges entirely.
 
 
 

I made millions from kidnapping

Anthony Egidi, (33years) who was arrested on October 26 at Ekenwan, Benin City, Edo State by Lagos State Special Anti-Robbery Squad said he made millions from kidnapping.
He also stated that as at the time of his arrest, he had kidnapped no fewer than seven persons in Lagos, Benin and Delta State.  He hails from Delta State, married with children and resides at Awoyaya Ibeju, Lekki Road.

Dr. Christopher Kolade, a former High Commissioner to the United Kingdom yesterday at the sixth Christopher Kolade Symposium organised by the Nigeria Leadership Initiative, said President Goodluck Jonathan has not shown the right leadership in the manner he has been handling his responsibilities as the leader of Nigeria.
 
He specifically mentioned the rally which Jonathan went on to attend shortly after a bomb blast killed many people in Kano State.  He said with that singular action, President Jonathan showed insensitiveness to the pains of his people.
 
 

Reasons why Nigeria cancelled US military training - FG

The Federal Government of Nigeria said the reason why they cancelled the training of Nigerian soldiers by American security experts was largely due to logistic issues.
 
The co-ordinator of the National Information centre, Mr. Mike Omeri stated this during a routine briefing on the security situation in the country.
 
He said the conditions placed by the US government were not healthy for the security of lives and properties of its citizens.  Part of the conditions he said was the withdrawal of some military equipment from the battle field, so that the Americans can use them to train the Nigerian soldiers.  Mike Omeri said the Nigerian government will not unnecessarily expose its citizens or place them at the mercy of the insurgents just because it want its soldiers to be trained.
 
 

Boko Haram planning to bomb Apapa sea port - Police

The Nigerian Police Command has raised alarm over threat by the Boko Haram sect to bomb the Apapa sea port Lagos.
 
Mrs. Hilda Ibifuno-Harrison, Commissioner of Police in Charge of the Western Commands stated this at the inauguration of the new executives of the Maritime Reporter Association of Nigeria.
 
She said it was based on intelligence report received three months back, that the deadly sect could be planning to bomb Lagos and possible also target the port.  She said the port authorities were taking the threat serious and enjoined everyone who visits the port to be on alert. 
 
 

Pope Francis has sacked the head of the Swiss Guard task with protecting him

Pope Francis has dismissed the commander of the Swiss Guard, Daniel Rudolf Anrig.  This was quietly announced by the Vatican yesterday saying, ''the Holy Father has ordered that Colonel Daniel Rudolf Anrig end his term 31 January at the conclusion of the extension of his mandate.''
 
Though the Vatican did not give any reason for this action, speculations have it that the Holy Father  disapprove of the rigid style of leadership Anrig had over the young men tasked to protect him.

According to Us weekly, Khloe Kardashian for the second time may have broken up with her boyfriend French Montana.
 
The two in September went their separate ways after eight months of dating.  A family source said, "Khloe just wasn't ready after Lamar [Odom] and it was getting too serious," "She respects and cares for him but just wasn't ready." (Kardashian filed for divorce from husband Lamar Odom in December 2013 after much drama, including Odom's struggles with substance abuse.)

Tyler Perry and his model girlfriend Gelila Bekele have welcomed their first child together.  The boy's name is Aman Tyler Perry.
