Turkey block Twitter and YouTube over photos of slain prosecutor



Turkey blocked access to Twitter and YouTube on Monday over the publication of photographs of an Istanbul prosecutor held at gunpoint by far-left militants hours before he was killed in a shootout last week, officials said.
Presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said a prosecutor had sought the block on access to social media sites because some media organizations had acted "as if they were spreading terrorist propaganda" in sharing the images.

Card Readers will be use for the April 11 gubernatorial elections - INEC


The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has brought out a press release stating that card readers will be use for the up coming election scheduled for April 11, 2015.  Read the full press release below...

The Independent National Electoral Commission wishes to inform all Nigerians that Card Readers will be used for the April 11, 2015 Elections. 

The provision of the Guildlines for the conduct of the 2015 General Elections which outlined what is to be done if a Card Reader fails and cannot be replaced by the Commission within a specified time (i.e. Rescheduled the election to the next day) will be enforced. 

2.            The relaxation of the Guildlines on 28th March 2015 was only with respect to the Presidential and National Assembly elections held on that date. 

3.            The Commission has reviewed the operation of the Card Reader in the 28th March Elections, identified the challenges and has taken adequate measures to address them.

Sjaak Rijke, Dutch hostage abducted by Al-Qaeda freed by French special forces

French special forces have freed Dutch hostage Sjaak Rijke, who was abducted by an al-Qaeda faction in Mali in 2011.
 
In a statement released on today, the ministry said that Rijke was taken to Tessalit after being rescued early in the morning.
 
Rijke was kidnapped by al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) along with Johan Gustafsson from Sweden and Stephen Malcolm, who is a British-South African dual national.
 
Gustafsson's and Malcolm's whereabouts are still unknown.

Father of girl who ran to join ISIS confess taking her to burning flag protests and demostrations when she was 13 years old

 
The father of a girl suspected of running away to join Isis in Syria said he took the youngster to a flag burning protest when she was aged just 13. 
Abase Hussen's daughter Amira was one of three young girls who flew to Turkey before being smuggled across the border into Syria in February. 
Mr Hussen was pictured at an extremist rally outside the US embassy attended by radical preacher Anjem Choudary where an American flag was burned. He was also seen at a second protest with his daughter outside the Saudi embassy to protest against the treatment of Ethiopians in the country.

Chinese businessman drowns in hotel swimming pool

 
Macao police are investigating the death of a Chinese mainland businessman who drowned in a massage tub at the Four Seasons hotel on April .
The victim, 37-year-old Wu Jinsheng, was reportedly in the massage tub, when a malfunction occurred to the tub's pump, which intensified the backwater flow at the bottom of the tub.
Wu was sucked down to the bottom of the pool, submerging his head.

Generator fumes kills man, wife in Ogun State

 
Tragedy struck in Ibafo, in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State when a couple, Mr. and Mrs. Tunji Lawal, were found dead in their house after inhaling generator fumes.
It was learnt that the Lawals, who had just moved to their newly built apartment in Isokan Estate, Ibafo, both worked in the Bariga area of Lagos State. They hailed from Ibadan, Oyo State.
Our correspondent gathered from neighbours that the Lawals were found dead in their house on Monday, March 30, with their generator working in one of the rooms in the building. The matter was reported to the Ibafo Police Division.
