IS stones two men to death for alleged gay practices

The Islamic State group stoned two men to death in Syria today after claiming they were gay, said a news source.  This is the jihadist organization’s first executions for alleged homosexuality. “The IS today stoned to death a man that it said was gay,” the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said, adding that the victim was around 20 years old.  He was killed in Mayadeen in the eastern province of Deir Ezzor, near the border with Iraq. 

Wole Soyinka diagnosed with cancer

At a press conference today, renowned playwright and Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has announced that he was diagnosed of cancer last December.
 
Speaking at the June 12 Cultural Center in Ogun State, "Kongi" encouraged awareness and preventative measures in stopping the spread of the disease. He attributes early detection and proper nutrition to his stable health so far.
 

CNN reporter hit in the head with a rock while give live TV report

CNN reporter Sara Sidner was pelted in the head with a rock as she reported live from the streets of Ferguson, Missouri.

Sidner was standing across the street from a local business that had recently caught on fire when an anonymous person hit the CNN reporter in the head as she spoke remotely to anchor Jake Trapper.

Trapper immediately asked her if she was OK, to which she replied “I’m OK, I’m OK. I’ve been hit with much worse in my day.”


Two female suicide bombers hit market in Maiduguri, at least 27 dead and 45 injured

Dozens of traders and passerby were today (Tuesday) killed near Maiduguri main market when two suspected female suicide bombers dressed in full hijab detonated bombs hidden under their garments.

The explosions occurred at about 11:20 a.m. at a crowded Maiduguri commercial area called One-Way.  At least 27 people have been confirmed dead while 45 are said to be injured.

Ebola update: First Italian doctor to contract Ebola arrives Rome for treatment

The doctor, whose first name is said to be Fabrizio, and who is the first Italian to contract the Ebola virus arrived Rome today Tuesday from Sierra Leone for specialist treatment in an infectious diseases hospital Rome.
The doctor, a 50-year old from Sicily, was flown into the military airport of Pratica di Mare in a specially sealed unit and taken to the Lazzaro Spallanzani institute by ambulance.
The Italian health ministry was expected to hold a press conference later on Tuesday with details of his condition.
 
 

Man kills his 17-year-old niece over loud music

A teenage Pakistani girl aged 17-years has been shot dead by her uncle following a row over loud music, police said Tuesday.  The incident happened in the Kallar Kahar valley in Punjab province’s Chakwal district, around 120 kilometres (75 miles) from the capital Islamabad.

“The girl Rehana Bibi was alone at her home and was listening to music when her uncle, Muhammad Gulistan, came to her house and asked her to lower the volume,” Sadat Ali, an official on duty at Kallar Kahar police station stated.

Two suspected fraudsters in court for scamming a Belgian nurse of €61,500

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arraigned two suspected fraudsters, Gabriel Osereme Xavi (a.k.a. Collins Page) and Aikhaituamen Best Junior Cyril, before Justice E.F. Ikponmwen of the Edo State High Court sitting in Benin, on charges bordering on conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretence.   While Xavi was slammed with a 12-count charge, Aikhaituamen was docked on 6-count charge.

The duo however pleaded not guilty to the charges after they were read to them on November 21, 2014.

Suspected mastermind of Nyanya bomb blast freed by the court

Aminu Ogwuche, the suspected mastermind of the April 14, 2014 Nyanya bomb blast, which killed 75 persons yesterday had charges filed against him by the Nigerian police and the DSS struck out by Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court Abuja for want of diligent prosecution.  And also due to the absence of the legal representative of the Inspector General of Police in court.
 
Justice Ademola in his reading said, ''The criminal charge is hereby struck out for want of diligent prosecution by the complaint, Inspector General of Police and his prosecution.''
 

Explosives rock PDP Secretariat in Cross River

Explosives suspected to be bomb was said to have rocked the PDP secretariat along the Murtala Mohammed Highway in Calabar, Cross River.  Police said suspected hoodlums who could not gain entry into the secretariat due to its tight security resulted in throwing explosive device into the premises.
 
Part of a  statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Hogan Bassey, read, “Early today, November 24, at about 0535 hours, hoodlums who were unable to penetrate the heavily fortified secretariat by officers and men of the command threw an explosive device from behind the premises into the building. The explosion only shattered some louvers on the ground floor. No life was lost and nobody sustained injury.”
