South Africa wins Miss World 2014 (More photos)

Miss South Africa Rolene Strauss was crowned Miss World today in London.

 "South Africa, this is for you," she said in an interview after the pageant. "I'm so proud of you and I'm proud to be your representative."

Strauss, 22, won the title over runner-up Miss Hungary Edina Kulcsar. Miss United States Elizabeth Safrit took third place. Strauss inherited the crown from Miss World 2013, Megan Young of the Philippines.

Fuel Scarcity: NEPENG to emabrk on a Nationwide indefinite strike from tomorrow (Monday)

THE National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers said it would from Monday commence an indefinite strike over the alleged sacking of the Zonal Secretary of the Petroleum and natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (Port Harcourt Zone), Mrs. Elo Ogbonda by her organisation, Total Exploration and Production.

 

NUPENG warned that it would shut down the distribution of petroleum products in its Port Harcourt Zone comprising Bayelsa, Rivers, Imo, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Enugu, Anambra, Benue, and Ebonyi within the strike period.

The book titled Questions and Answer on Taking Captives and Slaves, published by the Research & Fatwa Department of IS instruct them on how to buy, sell women and girls who have been captured in war; and give them as gifts to one and another.

Dying 11-year-old Ashanti Smiths desperate dream to have flowing hair like her school friends had come true after strangers donated hundreds of pounds to buy her a new wig.

 

Ashanti who suffers from a rare aging disease, Hutchinson Gilford Progenies , is not expected to live past the age of 15.

 

She could not hide her delight as she had her glossy new blonde locks styled at a top hairdresser - Brighton branch of Trevor Sorbie accompanied by her mother Phoebe and sister Minnie.

Police killed my brother, buried him and begged us with N10million - Victim's Sister

According to Sunday Sun, some policemen attached to Maroko police station, Lagos State, have been accused of kill­ing a 24-year old man, Aondona Tavershima and buried him in a shallow grave at Lekki beach.

 

Five of the suspected policemen are now currently in police detention. The victim, a motorcycle operator, was alleged to have refused to stop when he was accosted by the policemen who were said to be on patrol at about 11am on the fateful day.

70-year-old flamboyant nightclub owner stabbed to death by his 44-year-old son

David West (70), flamboyant nightclub owner was found stabbed to death allegedly by his son at their Mayfair home.  His son, also called David West has been charged with the murder and is due to appear in court by Monday.

 

Police and paramedics were called  to his three-bed room home in upmarket Ormond Yard at about 6pm yesterday.  His son was arrested on suspicion of the murder.

16-year-old girl gang raped by boyfriend and his friends

Four Eiye Confraternity members Oluwole Seye (18), Olayinka Andrew (18), Tobi Akindolapo (17) and Ayomide Akinbinu (18) are cooling off at the police station for allegedly gang raping 16-year-old Jolade in Ondo State.

 

According to the victim, Jolade, her boyfriend, Oluwole Syei (18), had invited her to a night party in Ondo town.  But unknown to her, the boyfriend had arranged with three of his friends to commit the dastardly act.

 

 

Many lives were lost at a gas explosion in Akure

Many people lost their lives yesterday when a gas explosion occurred at a gas station along Arakale Road in Akure, Ondo State.

 

 According to an eyewitness the explosion occurred at about 7pm during the sale of gas within the station.  He said, “We just heard a loud explosion and fire coming out of the gas station and we all ran.   “The fire suddenly engulfed the cars parked along the road and the buildings surrounding it.’’

 

  

Nigeria, US military relationship experiences another set-back

The relationship between Nigeria and the US as regards the US assistance to quell the Boko Haram insurgency is said to have suffered another set back.  The reason being that the US trainers are being accused of inciting the Nigerian soldiers to mutiny as a result of the negative teachings they received from the US trainers.
