Raymond Aleogho Dokpesi's son takes over as new Chairman of Daar Communication Plc

At the Annual General Meeting of Daar Communications Plc held at Abuja today, Chief Raymond Aleogho Dokpesi announced he was stepping down as Chairman of the company. 

And it was unanimously agreed and approved that his son Chief Raymond Paul Dokpesi Jnr. should step in as the new Chairman of the company.

Chief Raymond Paul Dokpesi is a graduate of Business Management form Kings College London and he obtained a Masters degree from the University of Westminster.

Daar Communication Plc is a holding company for Raypower, African Independent Television (AIT), Daar Sat and Faaji FM.

Will Kanye West ditch music for fashion?

Sources from his camp says Kanye West may ditch music for the fashion world because he says there is more money in fashion than in music.

According to Page Six, after his next collaboration with Paul McCartney, he is going to step away from music and concentrate on his fashion line.

The shoes he designed for Nike is said to have become collectors items selling for thousands of dollars.  But he left Nike because he felt his deal with them was not fetching him enough money.

He got a $15 million signing deal with Adidas but his own fashion line has been pushed back four times because he had not dedicated enough time to it.

Lagos State Environmental Sanitation exercise for tomorrow is cancelled

The monthly Lagos State monthly environmental sanitation exercise for November has been cancelled.
 
It was cancelled to allow the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) officers’ easy access to their centres to distribute Permanent Voters Card (PVCs) in the nine remaining local governments in Lagos.
 
The Lagos State Government also said the cancellation will allow the people of Lagos to fully participate in the ongoing collection of PVCs cards and registration exercise. INEC is expected to work from tomorrow, Saturday up until Sunday
 
 

Kano bomb blast update (caution: graphic photos)

Two suicide bombers detonated bombs today at one of Nigeria most prominent grand Mosque in Kano and gunmen then opened fire on people who were trying to escape to safety after the blasts occurred.  The attack occurred during today, Friday prayers at about 2pm.
 
After the assailants blew themselves up in succession at the Grand Mosque in Kano, “gunmen opened fire on those who were trying to escape”, Police spokesman Emmanuel Ojukwu told AFP.
 

Deputy Comptroller of prisons gets 7 years jail term

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured the conviction of a top prison officer brought before Justice J.J Majebi of the Kogi State High Court, Okene.  Justice J.J. Majebi convicted and sentenced Joseph Friday Idachaba, Deputy Comptroller of Prisons to seven years imprisonment for offences bordering on obtaining money by false pretence.
 
 

APC Presidential aspirants to sign undertaking to faithfully follow party manifesto - Odigie-Oyegun

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress today while receiving the completed presidential expression of interest and nomination forms from presidential aspirant. Rabiu Kwankwaso, said all aspirants seeking the party presidential ticket will have to sign an undertaking during their screening to faithfully implement the party's manifesto if voted into office.

According to New York Post,  Hillary Rodham Clinton is now charging more for speaking engagements than her former-president husband — and insists on a long list of demands as a condition.
 
When UCLA leaders asked her to speak, and requested a discounted price, they were stunned to find that her “special university rate” was $300,000, according to documents obtained.
 
When Bill Clinton spoke at UCLA in 2012, the former president charged $250,000.  That is whooping $50k more than hubby!

''For Made, I can do anything" - Femi Kuti as he built a storey building home for his 14-year-old son

The afrobeat king, Femi Kuti has said it over and over again that Made is the son after his own heart.  To prove it further, he just built and finished an edifice for the 14-year-old lad stating that he wants to make sure Made does not lack anything.

Made who is the first son of Femi Kuti and the only child from his estranged wife, Funke, became the proud owner of a story building edifice built for him by his father inside their Alagbole, Akute residence.

Late Prof. Dora Akunyili's daughter, Njideka Akunyili Crosby wins $25,000 American Art Museum prize

The Smithsonian American Art Museum has awarded the 2014 James Dicke Contemporary Artist Prize to Njideka Akunyili Crosby for her “bold yet intimate” paintings.
 
Njideka Akunyili Crosby will be the 11th recipient of this award which is given to artist under 50 years of age who has produced  significant body of art.  Njideka’s who was chosen by an independent panel was praised for her arts which reflect the ‘increasing transnational nature of the contemporary art world.
 
Born in Nigeria and graduated from the Swarthmore College, she has a master's degree in fine art from Yale University.  Her art work have graced important and prestigious museums like the Bronx Museum, Nasher Museum at the Duke University in Durham etc. and have seen them exhibited international in exhibition shows.

Riot in Lekki Phase 1, as bikeriders, bus drivers and thugs clash

There was pandemonium this morning at the Lekki Phase 1 axis as bus drivers and unidentified men clashed with commercial motorcyclists (popularly called Okada riders), leaving many injured.

The entry route into the estate was blocked by rioters armed with machetes and other dangerous weapons, leaving many commuters stranded and terrible traffic along the Lekki Expressway.

 

Pope Francis arrives Ankara, Turkey for a three day state visit

According to the Vatican Radio, Pope Francis’ plane has touched down at Ankara airport as the Pontiff begins a three day pastoral journey to Turkey. 
His visit to the cities of Ankara and Istanbul comes in response to invitations from the Turkish government and from the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I, the spiritual leader of 300 million Orthodox Christians.
The Pope’s engagements in Ankara include meetings with Turkish government leaders and with the nation’s senior Muslim cleric. He will then travel to Istanbul where he will meet Patriarch Bartholomew for talks after which he sign a joint declaration with him.    
 
 

 

Boko Haram used the cease-fire deal to re-strategize - Mike Ejiofor, former SSS Boss

According to Mike Ejiofor, former Director State Security Service, Boko Haram only used the period of the cease-fire to re-strategize and regroup.
 
He further stated that the Nigerian government mishandled the cease-fire arrangement, that such should not have been considered in the first place owing to the fact that the Boko Haram sect threatened to Islamise the whole of Nigeria. 
 
 

Thousands fled towns after receving letter from Boko Haram

Thousands of people have fled the ancient towns of Kukawa and Gubio in Borno State for the state capital, Maiduguri, after a letter purportedly written by the Islamist terror group, Boko Haram, threatened an imminent attack.
 
The fleeing residents arrived at the Baga motor park in numerous vehicles, with many moving into refugee camps while others sought out relations residing in Maiduguri
 
“They had attacked other local government areas around us. So when we received threat letters from Boko Haram that they would attack us soon, we all had to flee for our lives,” said Modu Kaka, one of those who fled. He added, “We heard what happened to people in Damasak where a similar threat was made and carried by Boko Haram.”

This is real wahala o!  Afrobeat King himself, Femi Kuti in a shocking interview with Ecomium magazine revealed that DNA test done on his children revealed that two out of the five of them were not his biological children.
 
He said out of the five, Made, Afolabi, Dupe, Tosin and Ayomide, Dupe and Tosin (a boy and a girl) were discovered not to be his children.
 
He confessed being disappointed and pained that a woman can actually give someone what does not belong to him.

UK in shortage of school teachers, looking to recruit from abroad

UK schools are now facing a terrible challenge in recruiting teachers for their schools due to shortfall of teachers.
 
They are now thinking of turning to overseas countries such as Australia, Canada and Irish Republic in search of trained teachers.

Despite 25,000 bursaries offered to top trainees, the Association of College Leaders, Deputy General Secretary Malcolm Trobe said, head teachers across the country had been describing the recruitment situation as, a ''ghastly''  ''really difficult'' and a ''disaster''.  He said from Durham, Taunton, in the South, East the story was the same.  Schools found it extremely difficult to recruit teachers

Woman gives birth, dumps baby into the toilet

Residents in Okpoko Community of Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State are presently in a state of shock after it was discovered that a married woman in their community gave birth and dump the one-day-old baby into the toilet.

She was said not to have had a protruded stomach which did not make people aware she was pregnant. 

One killed and two seriously injured during a kerosene explosion in Edo State

A 15-year-old boy have met his untimely death while two others are seriously burnt when an explosion suspected to have been cause by adulterated kerosene happened at Ukpebe Street, Off Textile Mill Road, Benin, Edo State.  The explosion which happened around 2.30am left 31-year-old Loveth Ode, her two-year-old son and her relative Omonefe with serious burns.
 
Omonefe unfortunately, died on the way to the hospital.
