It is only a court of law who can decide if to kill the dogs - Commissioner of Police Lagos State

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Cornelius Aderanti said it is only a court of law who will decide whether the two dogs which attacked and severely injured the skull of a four year old boy Omonigho Abraham be killed. 
 
The police also stated that the dogs have been examined and both found to be disease free.  That they decide to parade the dogs to reassure the general public that the dogs were still in their custody.   
“We have brought the dogs out so that the public would know that they are still in police custody. They have been examined and show no negative trait. It is only the court that will decide what happens to them. The police cannot decide to kill the dogs.”

Duchess of Cambridge makes her first appearance since announcing her pregnancy

The Duchess of Cambridge makes her first appearance today  since being away from the public due to severe hyperemesis gravidarum (severe morning sickness).  She was on hand with her husband to welcome the President of Singapore Tony Yan Keng Yam who is in the UK for an official state visit.

On Monday the royals announced that the Duchess and her husband were expecting their second child which is due April 2015.  


Kebbi State gets new SSG

Governor Sa’idu Dakingari has appointed Rabi’u Garba Kamba as Secretary to the State Government (SSG).   This followed the resignation of Nuruddeen Usman.

Usman resigned his appointment as SSG to contest for the House of Representatives.   He is to slug it out with Ibrahim Bawa Kamba, the current member representing the area.

Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Abubakar Mu’azu Dakingari, confirmed the developments.

Congratulatory message from President Jonathan to Governor Uduaghan

Governor Uduaghan of Delta Sate will be 60 years tomorrow 22nd October 2014.  And he got a congratulatory message from President Jonathan applauding his exemplary dedication to the service of Delta State and Nigeria.  He was also commended for his commitment to the ideals of diligence, humility and perseverance.   Part of the message states:
 
“On behalf of my family, the Government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I write to express warm felicitations to you on the glorious occasion of your 60th birthday anniversary.


American detainee who was arrested in North Korea for leaving a bible at his hotel is released and on his way home


Jeffrey Fowle, one of three Americans being held in North Korea, has been released, the State Department said Tuesday.

State Department deputy spokeswoman Marie Harf said Fowle was home Tuesday after negotiators left Pyongyang.   An American government plane picked up Fowle on Tuesday before flying to Guam. The U.S. is still trying to free Americans Matthew Miller and Kenneth Bae. 

Fowle was arrested in North Korea in May for leaving a bible at his hotel.  

Last month, Fowle gave an interview to CNN pleading for U.S. help and speaking about conditions of his detention.   In the interview, Fowle said he has 'no complaints' about his treatment.  He said, 'It's been very good so far, and I hope and pray that it continues, while I'm here two more days or two more decades,' he said.

Washington has tried for months to send a high-level envoy to North Korea to seek release of the three men.

Analysts say North Korea has previously used detained Americans as leverage in its standoff with the U.S. over its nuclear and missile programs, a charge that Pyongyang denies. 

Eight Aides resigns from Governor Seriaki Dickson's cabinet

About eight political appointees in Bayelsa State have resigned their appointments to contest for various offices on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 elections.

They will be contesting for various seats in the state and national assemblies.  Among persons said to have announced their resignations were the Commissioner for Education, Mr. Salo Adikumo and the Chief of Staff, Bayelsa House, Abuja, Chief Dikivie Ikhiogha.  Others were Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Mr. Fred Agbedi who was said to have submitted his resignation to the office of the Secretary to the State Government and the Commissioner for Local Government, Mr. Maitama Obodo.

Our baby's name is Henry Okojie - Mercy Johnson-Okojie and husband

Mercy Okojie and husband welcomed a bundle of joy on the 15th of October in the US.  according to them the name of their new born son is Henry Okojie. Henry is the couple’s second child, their first daughter Purity was born in December 2012.

 
 

I want to be Governor so as to rescue Lagos State from bondage and commercialization - Obanikoro

Musiliu Obanikoro during an inspection of Quarter Guard set by the Defence Ministry in his honour declared that one of the reasons for wanting to take another shot at the governorship of Lagos is to rescue the state from bondage and the commercialization of its governance.

He thanked President Jonathan for giving him the opportunity and support to serve Nigerians and expressed hope in the success of the ceasefire the Federal Government has entered into with the Boko Haram Sect.  His words: “We came in at a very difficult time for the country and I thank God we have been able to strongly put in hard work to ensure that value is added to what we met on the ground, and some of the successes that we have seen in terms of stability in the country is part of the contribution that we have also made as part of the ministry of defence family.
 

Chairman/CEO of Total Oil is dead

The head of French oil giant Total SA was killed at a Moscow airport when his corporate jet collided with a snowplow whose driver was drunk, Russian investigators has said.  Total confirmed "with deep regret and sadness" that Chairman and CEO Christophe de Margerie died in the crash at Moscow's Vnukovo airport.
The three other people on board, all of them French crew members, also died when the French-made Dassault Falcon 50 hit the snowplow on takeoff at 11:57 p.m. Monday. The plane crashed onto the runway and burst into flames, investigators said.
 
 

I am dying of boredom! - Chika Ike

Chika Ike is still in Dubai holidaying. She said she had to rent a yacht for two days because she is bored.  Come home if you are no longer enjoying your stay in Dubai.  That is the most sensible thing to do.

Bureau de Change manager in court for stealing $50,000

A manager of a bureau de change Abubakar Abdullahi has been arraigned before Justice Dije Aboki of Kano State High Court for defrauding its employer of an amount running into millions of naira.

Abdullahi, who was the manager of Maisabilu Bureau de Change Kano (before his arrest) was said to have in April 2013 purchased on his company's behalf $50,000 from the Central Bank.  The said money was for a customer Mr. Bello Sani Yakassai.  But he converted the said sum for his personal use.

The anti-graft body said that the offence contravened section 314 of the penal code of the law of Kano State.

Oscar Pistorius sentenced to 5 years imprisonment

Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius has been sentenced to 5 years imprisonment  for shooting dead his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

The double amputee sprinter, 27, admitted killing the model and TV presenter at his home in Pretoria in the early hours of valentine's day last year.


Father abandons 3 of his children in a boarding school for 8 years

The children Seun 14, Titilola 13 and Seyi 10 have been severed from parental care for eight years.  They were abandoned by their father at Solid Model College in Abule Aroko in Ado-Odo Ota Local Governement Area of Ogun State. 

Narrating the story, the proprietor of the school said Mr. Samuel Ayegbusi Adepegba came to enroll them in his school on September 24, 2007 with a promise to always check on them.  He told me his wife had just left him and that he could not afford to take care of them, being a jobless man. The children were very little. Seyi was two, while Titilola was five.  “Mr Adepegba had pleaded with me to accept them in the boarding school. Mr Adepegba’s sister promised to bear the cost of their upkeep. They paid an initial N150, 000 for the three children for the first term.”


KIdnappers now withdraw ransom from ATM

The Police Public Relation Officer in Rivers State, Mr. Ahmad Mohammed have alerted the general public to the latest method adopted by kidnappers.  He said kidnappers no longer go to bank branches to withdraw ransoms instead withdraws such from ATM cash points.
 
He said, “The command wishes to bring to the notice of the general public of the new technique employed by criminals to drain their victims’ bank accounts by keeping them hostage and using the victims’ ATM cards to withdraw money from their account.  “Such victim regains freedom only after his bank account has been exhausted. Members of the public are hereby advised to exercise caution when moving about with their ATM cards on them unless it is most necessary.”

 

Nigerian Army abandons ceasefire agreement, kills 25 insurgents

The ceasefire agreement with the Boko Haram sect which was announced on Friday last week seems to have been abandoned by both the Nigerian army and the sect.
 
The Boko Haram was the first to abandon the agreement by attacking two communities Shafa and Sina both in Borno and Adamawa state.  Just as the attacks were seen as a breach of the ceasefire, they struck again attacking and capturing  Abadam village and beheaded six people.
 
The military however states that attacks by the insurgents does not amount to collapse of the ceasefire.
