Pele's condition improves in hospital

The Brazil legend, who was admitted with a urinary infection three days ago, is expected to remain in hospital for at least a week.

Jose Fornos Rodrigues, Pele's personal aide, said he was "completely fine" and the move was mainly to protect his privacy with several hundred fans gathered outside the Albert Einstein hospital.   "He was uncomfortable with so many people coming. It'll be quieter now," Rodrigues said.
 
 

Six-month-old boy tested positive for cocaine in Italy

A six-month-old baby has tested positive for cocaine in Padua, northern Italy.
 
The parents, who are both recovering drug addicts, are being investigated by police - but are now in hospital after attempting suicide.
 
The father, a 38-year-old cook and the mother, who is 23 and unemployed, took the little boy to hospital with a fever and red eyes last month
 
 

US embassy denies Blessing Okagbare's husband visa

The US embassy in Abuja has rocked the boat for African sprint queen, Blessing Okagbare who recently got married to her heart-throb Igho Otegheri.

Okagbare and her footballer husband, planned to travel to Los Angeles where the double sprint 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medallist is based. But Otegheri was denied a visa, something that left Okagbare distraught and confused.

Madonna, a mother-of-four opted to spend thanksgiving not in America but rather in the Malawi orphanage where she adopted her daughter Mercy James.

The pop diva shared beautiful pictures on her instangram page today showing Mercy James and David Banda (another of her adopted son) playing at the Kondanani Children's Home in Malawi.

Denrele Edun, the ''Unexplained Mystery'' man indeed!

27-year-old man murdered his father, placed the body parts in boxes and used them as a TV stand

27-year-old Nathan Robinson has been found guilty of murdering his father, dismembering his body, placed the parts in boxes and used the boxes as a TV stand in his flat.
 
He was said to have used a Stanley knife, hacksaw ad a saw to cut up the body of his father, 48-year-old William Spiller at their flat.
 
Nathan tried to cover up the murder,  He cleaned up the scene with newly purchased cleaning products, used his father's phone to send text messages to his father's partner and friends.  But a neighbour living in the flat below complained of a pink liquid seeping through the ceiling.

Another bomb blast at Mubi Adamawa State, 10 soldiers, 35 hunters killed

Boko Haram militants today at about 6pm detonated a roadside bomb after ambushing a combination of soldiers and hunters in Mararaba near Mubi in Adamawa state.

According to military Sources said at least 10 soldiers and 35 hunters were killed in the ambush that happened.  Although a Nigerian army source said they could not immediately comment on the level of casualty but stated they were aware of the attack and still investigating.

Nigeria Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke elected first OPEC female president

The Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, has been elected the first female president of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). 
 
 
Alison-Madueke was elected President of OPEC today at the ongoing 166th General Meeting of the body in Vienna, Austria.  She is replacing Libyan Vice Prime Minister for Corporation Abdourhman Atahar Al-Ahirish, the immediate past president of OPEC.

Popular Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh who recently launched her foundation "The Tonto Dikeh Foundation'' held  a press conference to let the public know what the foundation is all about.

She said her foundation will partner with schools, hospitals, motherless homes, mosques, churches, government ministries and well meaning Nigerians who wish to make a positive impact in the society.

13 gang-member Somalia men convicted of running sex ring which abused, raped and prostituted young girls in Britain

Thirteen men have been convicted of running a sex ring that saw vulnerable under aged British girls abused, raped and prostituted.  The victims with some as young as thirteen were sexually abused an d passed around the gang's friends for money.
 
The girls were said to have been brain washed into believing that the abuse was part of a relationship.
 
Some of the girls who were as young as thirteen years were raped up to four times in one night by three different men in a hotel they were taken to by some of the gangs.  Some of them were paid as little as 30 pound or given drugs, alcohol or gifts to perform sexual acts on older men.

British embassy vehicle attacked in Kabul, Afghanistan

A British vehicle was said to have been attacked today by a suicide bomber who was said to be riding a motorbike when he attacked the vehicle in Kabul, Afghanistan.  Unconfirmed source said three people died in the bomb blast.

A spokesman for the British embassy has confirmed there are a number of injuries.

He said, "I can confirm it was a British vehicle and there are some injuries. We are working with the Afghan authorities,"

The blast was powerful enough to wound 33 Afghan bystanders and destroy three cars nearby, stated the Interior Ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqqi

The 30-year-old who was casually dressed and was with about seven other people was seen trying out the flavoured tobacco on the boat which was docked in the United Arab Emirates City Marine for the Mahiki F1 yacht party.

Good news is, smoking the hookah is legal in the UAE.  Although lots of attention is being drawn to it due to its hazards.  Last week  a study found fumes from the water pipe of the hookahs to contain the toxin benzene which has been linked to an increased risk of Leukaemia.  One session of the hookah is said to be equivalent to 100 cigarettes.

Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes dies after severe head injury

25-year-old Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes is dead after suffering a severe head injury during a Sydney cricket match.
 
He passed away after failing to recover from an induced coma at the St Vincent's Hospital in Sydney.  The cricketer who would have been 26 on Sunday was fatally injured when a hit by a ''bouncer'' somehow evading the cricketer's helmet landed on his neck.

Buhari's plane refused landing rights at Makurdi airport

A chartered plane that was conveying the All Progressive Congress Presidential aspirant, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari to Makurdi was said to have been refused lading at the Makurdi airport yesterday.
 
Buhari who visited Bayelsa State as part of his mobilization of party members ahead of All Progressive Congress presidential primaries slated for this month, was initially cleared for landing at the airport.  But 30 minutes to landing, the aircraft was told it would no longer be able to land.
 
 

11 killed in another deadly coal mine explosion in China

At least 11 people were killed today in the second deadly coal mine accident to hit China in two days, pointing to continuing safety issues in the industry despite a major decline in deaths among miners in recent years.

The official Xinhua News Agency said 19 people were working in a mine in the southern province of Guizhou when an explosion ripped through the shaft early in the morning.
 

Egypt court sentences 78 minors to 340 years in prison over protests


Seventy-eight Egyptian minors have been handed sentences of between two and five years in prison by a juvenile court in Alexandria on charges of "belonging to an outlawed group," according to Egypt's state news agency.
  
The 78 minors were arrested for taking part in protests organised by the Muslim Brotherhood that called for the fall of the government and the return of deposed former president Mohamed Morsi to power.  They were also charged for obstructing traffic and for spreading fear among local residents and store owners.

 
 

Abductors released Delta State University lecturer, insist on ransom before releasing brother

A lecturer Dr. Nyaerohovwo Tonukari of the Delta State university, Abraka, who was abducted 45 days ago on his way from Sapele to school, has been released by his abductors. However, his younger brother, Tega, who was also abducted with him, was not released. 
Tonukari’s release came a day after the institution’s Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) protested at the Government House, Asaba, and at the Office of the Police Commissioner, to draw attention to the plight of their colleague.

Eje Ebi, 25years, was in the Ikorodu area of Lagos machete to death by one Adesina Osinowo, a cobbler.
 
The victim met his death when the suspect wanted to dispossess him of some money he was taking to the market to purchase goods.
 
 

Yomi Peters, ex-stores player finally goes home!

The 74-year-old former stationery stores player and coach has finally surcomes to the battle with gastric cancer.  He died at about 9.20am yesterday.
 
Peter was said to have initially be diagnosed with tumour but after series of tests was discovered to have had gastric cancer.
 
Initially, he had difficulties settling his hospital bills until Lagos State Government volunteered to take over the bills.
 
 

Nine people including an American arrested for assisting in transporting cocaine to the UK

Nine more people have been picked up by Ghanaian security operatives in connection with the cocaine bust involving a Ghanaian woman, Nayele Ametefe at London Heathrow Airport.
 
The arrest of the nine came after a swoop by a team of security agents. The nine arrested include two ladies who are believed to have travelled with Miss Ametefe but bolted when she was accosted by airport officials. Their names have been given as Nana Akua Amponsah and Sadalia Sandra Nuhu.
