Burkina Faso President declares state of emergency

Burkina Faso’s President Blaise Compaoré declared a state of emergency and dissolved the government today, as he pledged to open talks with the opposition in an effort to defuse protests sparked by his attempt to extend his presidency.
 
Compaoré announced the state of emergency and the government’s dissolution in a statement that was read by a presenter on Radio Omega FM.

Three drug traffickers caught for smuggling cocaine worth N131 millin into Nigeria

Three suspected drug traffickers who attempted to smuggle a total of 14.6kg of high grade cocaine from Brazil into Nigeria were arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport today.
 
The Nigerian Drug and Law Enforcement Agency states that the drug traffickers were apprehended during an inward screening of passengers on an Emirate flight from Dubai.  The drug were said to have been hidden in shoe soil and laptop bags.

Nigeria's ambassador to the UN loses husband

 Dr. Aloysius Ogwu, the husband of Prof. Joy Ogwu,  Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, is dead.

A statement issued by the Permanent Mission of Nigeria to the UN, New York, on today said Aloysius died on Monday in New York, aged 77.

Stephen Keshi to remain the coach of the Super Eagles - President Jonathan

President Jonathan during his meeting with the NFF warring factions - Chris Giwa and Amaju Pinnick at the Aso Villa has asked them to resolve their crisis.
 
He also asked Chris Giwa to withdraw his case from the court.  And ordered that former Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi should be reinstated to see the Eagles through their two remaining African Nations qualifying matches.
 

 

2015: Jonathan picks PDP nomination forms

President Jonathan stormed the National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party to pick up his expression of interest and nomination forms to contest the February 2015 presidential election.
 
Jonathan while picking the form said he still would have picked the form even if the party had denied him the right of first refusal.
 
He thanked all Nigerians and promised to work with all to move Nigeria from its present position to where it ought to be.

Kim has come out to play the role of a big sister by defending Kylie Jenner's lips. 
 
Comments and opinions as regards Kylie's fuller lips took over the media few days back.   The 17 year-old later came out to say she was bored by reports claiming she has had lip injections.
 
But big sis (Kim) has revealed the secret to Kylie's perfect pout!  She told a UK beauty blog that little sis Kylie is a very good make-up expert.  That she wears just a lip liner and then fills it in.  She also said Kylie doesn't wear lipstick nor lipgloss.

Motorola sold to a Chinese firm for $2.91bn

The Chinese firm takes control of the brand from Google and has acquired 3,500 employees in the process.

The deal is worth $2.91bn (£1.82bn) and allows Google to keep the patent portfolio while offloading the handset business.

Lenovo is already the world's bestselling PC maker thanks to a takeover of IBM's personal computing arm nine years ago. Now it is pushing into the smartphone market.

Update: Hon. Aminu Tambuwal's security redeployed back to his office

The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba, has redeployed the Police personnel attached to the Speaker, House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal.
 
The Force Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu, in a statement today in Abuja, said the withdrawal of Tambuwal’s security aides was based on Section 68(1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
 
 
His statement reads, “In view of the recent defection by the Right Hon.  Aminu Waziri Tanbuwal, CFR, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, from the People Democratic Party to the All Progressive Congress and having regard to the clear provision of section 68(1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, the Nigeria Police Force, has redeployed its personnel attached to his office.”
 
Nigerians woke up today to hear that the security details attached to the speaker were withdrawn.  But it was not known who gave the order for their withdrawal.
 
 

Gov. Emmanuel Uduaghan submits forms for Delta Senatorial seat

Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State today submitted his nomination forms for Delta State Senatorial district at the Peoples Democratic Party State Headquarters Asaba, Delta State.
 
He picked up the forms on October 17 at the national secretariat of the PDP in Abuja.  He expressed his appreciation to all PDP faithful and Delta people for their love and support.


Apple CEO, Tim Cook is gay

In a public  declaration written for Bloomberg BusinessWeek, Cook said that while he never denied his sexuality, he never publicly acknowledged it.  He also revealed that he has been open with many people as regards his sexuality and that many of his colleagues are aware that he is gay.
 
Cook also challenged his home state of Alabama to ensure the rights of  lesbians, gay, bisexual and transgender are respected.  Alabama so far, do not recognise same sex marriage.
 
He said being gay is one of the greatest gifts God gave him.
 
He succeeded Apple founder Steve Jobs as CEO of Apple in 2011.
 
 

Security attached to Speaker House of Representatives withdrawn

The official security attached to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal, have been withdrawn.
 
No information yet as to who ordered the withdrawal.  But all security who works with hm did not turn up for work today.
 
A National Assemble aide stated that when they reported for work this morning they found out that none of his security men reported for work.
 
 

Prince Harry takes a ride in an old 1960 London bus

Prince Harry joined Actress Barbara Windsor in an old classic 1960s Route Master bus outside Buckingham Palace where he met military personnel and volunteers supporting the Royal British Legion.
 
Harry follows in the footsteps of his brother and sister-in-law, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge who last year also travelled on the Route Master to High Street Kensington Underground Station in support of same course.
 

Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke's sister rescued from kidnappers

The Rivers Police Command today confirmed the rescue of Mrs Osiya Agama, a sister of the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke.
 
Mrs. Agama was abducted by unknown gunmen on Tuesday, 21 October 2014 at the Leventis Bus Stop in Port Harcourt on her way from the church.
 
The Public Relations Officer of the command,  DSP Ahmad Muhammad said Mrs. Agama was rescued by security operatives yesterday during a joint operation by the police, the military and SSS, adding that two suspects had been arrested.
 
 
 

28 year-old man sentenced to 7 months in jail for stealing a ram

The presiding officer of an Upper Area Court, sitting in Zuba Abuja, Malam Aminu Sa'ad has sentenced Shamsudeen Usman 28 years, to seven months imprisonment for stealing a ram.
 
Shamsudeen who was charged with the offence of criminal trespass and theft was however given the options of N5000 for the offence of criminal trespass and N10,000 for theft.  He was however unable to pay the above amounts and was therefore taken to prison.
 

A pilot was arrested on suspicion of being drunk minutes before he was due to fly a plane

A Flybe pilot was taken off a passenger plane and arrested on suspicion of being drunk minutes before he was due to take off.
 
The pilot was due to fly from Newquay Airport in Cornwall to London Gatwick yesterday morning.
But after concerns were raised by a fellow crew member, police officers were called and he was removed for a breath test.
 
Passengers were delayed by five hours and one male passenger missed a connection for a flight to Mexico because of the situation.
 

Malala donates $50,000 to help rebuild schools in Gaza

Malala Yousafzai has announced a donation of $50,000 to help rebuild a united Nations Relief and Works Agency and other schools which got damaged during the recent fighting in Gaza.
 
The donated $50,000 is an award price of the World's Children Price in Stockholm which Malala won.
 

28 year-old man raped a 13 year-old girl for 5 days

Abdulkadir Salihu, 28 years-old and an auto mechanic is currently remanded in prison for allegedly abducting and raping a teenage girl for 5 days.
 
Senior Magistrate, Mrs. Joyce Abdulmalik of Lokoja Senior Magistrate Court 1 gave this order in her ruling during the arraignment of the accused on a two-count charge of kidnapping and rape offences said to be contrary to section 273 and 283 of the Penal Code Law.
 
The offence was said to have been reported by one Adama Ibrahim of Galilee Street, Lokoja at the ‘A’ Division Police headquarters and Department of Criminal Investigation, Lokoja on October 23.
 
 

Boko Haram seizes Mubi, kills many

Boko Haram fighters was said to have launched a major attack in Adamawa State capturing the commercial town of Mubi, where many were killed and inmates of a prison released.
 
Mubi which is 200 kilometres from Yola the state capital is the second largest town in Adamawa State.
 
The insurgents were said to have invaded the town in 14 trucks, took over the palace of the Emir of Mubi and broke into the town's prison and released all the prisoners.
 
 

Suspected Ebola Patient arrives Lagos Airport from Sierra Leone

Passengers and other users of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos were yesterday thrown into panic as a suspected Ebola patient was flown into the country by Royal Air Maroc in the early hours of the day.   The Moroccan airline arrived Lagos from Casablanca at 6am.

 The victim, one Theophilus Onnakhinon, a Nigerian, was said to have been flown into the country by the airline, while his younger brother, Chinedu Eroka, absconded from Sierra Leonean authorities.  For now, it is not clear why Eroka absconded from the Sierra Leonean authorities.  The passenger was said to have under gone treated for the Ebola virus and declared cured.
 
 

Boy attacked by 2 German Shephard dogs in critical condition

The health of Omonigho Abraham who was attacked and bitten by two germen shepherd dogs is said to be worsening.
 
Omonigho has been under going treatment at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for almost a month.  Information from his father says the boy still complain of severe pains all over his body and his scalp which was torn off by the dogs had not healed and is giving off an offensive odour.
 

 

My death will not join the list of unsolved murders in Nigeria - Festus Keyamo

Festus Keyamo, a Lagos State based lawyer has sent a letter dated 29 October, 2014 to the Inspector General of Police and the Director General State Security Services alleging that his life is in danger as a result of threats from Mr. Government Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo who had threatened to either beat him or shoot him to death.
 
The reasons being that Mr. Festus Keyamo has agreed to take a case involving one George Ekpemupolo, Tompolo's brother.
