Oby Ezekwesili negotiating to be appointed co-ordinating Minister for the economy in Buhari's govt

 
According to Nigeria Times, feelers from ongoing consultations within APC circles on appointments in the incoming administration of President-elect Muhammadu Buhari, indicate that former Education Minister and leader of the Bring Back Our Girls movement, Oby Ezekwesili, is currently in talks with APC leaders, towards being made Finance Minister.
 
A source within the APC hierarchy told The Nigerian Times that the former Minister turned activist has equally indicated interest in the post of Coordinating Minister for the Economy, a position created by the Goodluck Jonathan administration and currently held by Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
 
Sources however says that while the party’s leadership is not unwilling to consider Ezekwesili for the post of Finance Minister, they appear reluctant to make her the Coordinating Minister for the Economy.
 

ISIS threatens to imprison men caught wearing skinny jeans, smoking or having music on their mobile phones

 
 
Islamic State militants have imposed a new law threatening to jail any man caught wearing skinny jeans or having music on their mobile phones in an apparent crackdown on hipsters.
The terror group said it would also imprison anyone caught smoking or turning up late for prayer in further draconian crackdowns in its Syrian stronghold of Raqqa. 
Violators will be jailed for ten days, during which time they will be made to take an 'Islamic course', it was reported by anti-ISIS informants in the city.

Mohammadu Buhari, Goodluck Jonathan meet for the first time after the election


The President-elect, Gen. Muhammad Buhari (retd.), on Friday met behind closed doors with President Goodluck Jonathan inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
That was the first time the two leaders would be meeting since the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Buhari winner of the March 28 Presidential election.
The meeting, which was described as “private,” was held inside the the new Banquet Hall inside the President’s office.

Baby born without a nose will not have surgery


 
The Alabama family who gave birth to baby Eli Thompson, who was born without a nose has managed to raise $25 000 for his operation.  According to Buzzfeed news, Eli breaths normally through his mouth and is doing well after a surgery to make his breathing easier.
 
But, Eli’s malformation, which has a 1 in 10 billion chance of happening, will require many surgeries in the future.

I will quit INEC job in June 2015 - Attahiru Jega

 
The chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Attahiru Jega, has said he will not accept a tenure renewal even if he is offered.
The tenure of Mr. Jega, appointed by President Goodluck Jonathan in 2010 to replace the then chief of Nigeria’s electoral management body, Maurice Iwu, will expire in June this year.
Speaking in an interview with the Hausa Service of the British Broadcasting Corporation Mr. Jega said having successfully accomplished the task assigned to him, another person should be given the opportunity to contribute his own quota‎.

I saw image of an adult, says a 65-year-old man who defiled 11-year-old girl

 
As the girl sat on the edge of my bed, I turned and looked at her, but what I saw was not the young girl I knew. I saw a mature girl in her. I asked her ‘why are you turning to an adult?’, and she replied: ‘I did not turn to anything’.
 
This was the claim of a 65-year-old Mr. Bola Kehinde, a fire extinguisher repairer, residing at Inalende area of Ibadan, Oyo State, when he was arrested for defiling an 11-year-old daughter of his neighbour (names withheld) on Friday, March 6, 2015. The crime was reportedly committed at about 4p.m.
 
The neighbour, one Mrs Comfort (surname withheld) had reported the criminal act at Mokola Police Station same day. The victim was said to have bled so much as the suspect used his finger and manhood during the act of defilement.
 

Update: INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, wife and children dies in a mystery fire



The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kano, Munka’ila Abdullahi, his wife, and two children were burnt to death in what has been described as a mystery fire in Kano on Friday morning.

Abdullahi died along with his family members following an outbreak of fire in his official residence on Kashim Road, Nasarawa GRA, Kano.

The INEC Assistant Director, Public Affairs, Alhaji Lawal Garba, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria in Kano on Friday.

Ndigbo may not produce the next Senate President - Gov. Rochas Okorocha

 
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has warned that lack of vision on the part of political leaders from the South-East may deny the region the opportunity to produce the next President of the Senate.
 
While addressing leaders of the APC and party supporters at the Imo International Convention Centre in Owerri, Okorocha lamented that despite the contributions of the Igbo to national development since Independence, they had continued to lag behind in Nigerian politics due to their leaders’ selfishness.
 
 
He blamed the present situation on members of the Peoples Democratic Party, whom he accused of stealing the mandate given to the candidates of the All Progressives Congress in the 2015 National Assembly election by the electorate.

''100-year-old teenager'' and Progeria campaigner, Hayley Okines is dead

 
Hayley Okines, from Bexhill, East Sussex, became known as the 100-year-old teenager through her efforts to raise awareness of progeria.
She died on Thursday evening.  Her mother, Kerry, announced Hayley's death saying, "My baby has gone somewhere better. She took her last breath in my arms at 9.39pm,’’

Allow me seize this opportunity to join millions of Nigerians to congratulate the President-Elect Gen. Muhammadu Buhari on his victory at the just concluded election. I want to also congratulate President Goodluck Jonathan for creating the enabling environment for free and fair elections, which has led to the transformation and further entrenchment of democracy in our country. I have no doubt that democracy is here to stay in Nigeria.

INEC Resident Commissioner in Kano State wife, children killed in '"strange" fire incident

According to Premium Times newspaper, the Resident Commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission in Kano, Mikaila Abdulahi and his family are dead.  They were all said to have died in a strange fire incident which occurred in his residence last night or early this morning.
 
Details of the incident is still very sketchy but sources said Mr. Mikaila and his wife and two children were all killed in the incident.
 
The spokesperson of the Kano state Command of the Police confirmed the incident.
 

Kenya terrorist attack update: Up to 150 people killed in worst country attack in 17 years, christian students targeted and beheaded (photos)

 
Up to 150 people were said to have been murdered by masked al-Shabaab terrorists who stormed a Kenyan university and shot and beheaded Christians in the worst attack in the country in 17 years.
The group raided the Garissa University College campus shortly after 5am local time, overwhelming guards and murdering people they suspected of being Christians.
The death toll rose to 147 last night and the 13-hour siege ended. A total of 79 were injured and 587 were led to safety.

Bricklayer kills girlfriend, dumps her body inside a pit toilet

Residents of the Balogun Agoro area of Osogbo, the Osun State capital were on Thursday shocked to discover the remains of a 20-years-old lady, suspected to have been killed and dumped inside a pit toilet by her boyfriend.
According to sources, the suspect, identified simply as Soji, is a bricklayer and had been dating the lady for some years.
A resident of the area, who declined identification, said residents of the area did not know that there was a corpse inside the toilet until policemen from the Dugbe Division came to evacuate the remains of the lady.

No fewer than 20 people have been reportedly killed in a bomb blast at the Bauchi motor park in Gombe State.

No group has claimed responsibility yet.

This is the picture of the Syrian 4-year-old girl, Hudea, who broke millions of hearts after she quickly raised her arms in a surrendering gesture to a camera she mistook for a gun.
4-year-old Hudea, was pictured late last year by photographer late last year by photographer Osman Sagirli in Atmen refugee camp just 10km from the border with Turkey.

“Nigerians have taken the lead in the rejection of corruption. The election result is a manifestation of the people’s resolve to confront corruption, dishonesty and exploitation.

This is a clear message to the new leadership. A bold step has been taken towards a new Nigeria and the incoming leader cannot be unaware of what is expected of him.

Nigerians did not vote for just anyone. They voted for a man whose integrity is extremely high. Nigeria is tired of corruption and the choice of this leader is a clear indication of where she wants to go. I hope General Buhari will put together a team whose understanding of the power of the people recognizes and respects the will of the people.
