Lawmakers in Pakistan have filed a bill banning the exhuming of corpses for consumption or magical purposes after two brother Mohammed Arif Ali 35, and Mohammed Farman Ali 30 were found to have dug up more than 100 corpses from the local graveyard by making human curry stew out of them.

They were arrested after neighbours complained of a bad stench emanating from their house. The Ali brothers were previously arrested after the head of a three-year-old boy was discovered in their home in the small town of Darya Khan in Bhakkar District in Punjab. The brothers had previously served a jail term of two years when a corpse of a woman that disappeared from her grave was traced to them. Further investigation led police to their home where they found a pot containing meat (human flesh) curry.
Despite several incidents, cannibalism is still legal under the Pakistani law. But after the bill is passed, robbing graves for such purposes would see perpetrators facing a mandatory jail sentence of ten years to life, and at least seven for eating human flesh.
