Suspected Boko Haram Islamist fighters have kidnapped around 80 people including children in a cross boarder attack on villages in Northern Cameroon.
This particular kidnapping is said to be the largest so far as neighbouring Chad deployed troops to support Cameroon forces in the area.
A senior army officer stated, ''According to initial information around 30 adults most of them herders and 50 young boys and girls aged 10-15 years were abducted''.
He said the early morning attack had targeted the village of Mabass and other villages along the porous border, while soldiers exchanged fire with the Islamist for almost two hours.
There were also Boko Haram attack on several localities in the far Northern region of Cameroon. The assailant burnt down 80 houses and kidnapped several inhabitants.
Earlier this month, the militant threatened Cameroon in a YouTube post before this recent kidnapping, warning that the same fate would befall their country as neighbouring Nigeria.
