According to
the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Immigration, Chukwuemeke Obuah, the
Federal Government has concluded arrangements to conduct fresh recruitment of
applicants into the Nigerian Immigration Service. This is coming after almost a year that a
similar exercise ended tragically that saw some of the supposed applications
dead and other injured. He also said advertorials have been
placed in major newsprints for that purpose.
Obuah noted: "The Presidential Committee To Assist In Immigration
Recruitment on Monday February 9, 2015 placed advertorial in some
national dailies requesting applications from suitable Nigerians for enlistment
into the Nigeria Immigration Service starting from 9th February 2015 to
22nd March, 2015. The application is free and must be done online".
The stampede that occurred during the poorly planned NIS aptitude test on
Saturday, March 15,2014, led to the death of over 20 applicants with
several others injured.
Reports also revealed that there were only 4, 000 vacancies but the
Ministry of Interior approved the sale of application scratch cards to over
520, 000 citizens, amounting to over $3, 000,000 in revenue to the ministry.
