A
dead lecturer, who was accused of rape before his demise, has been dismissed
alongside two others by the authorities of the Delta State University (DELSU),
Abraka.
While
the deceased don, identified as Mr Ifeanyi Ogu-Raphael of the Department of
Theatre Arts, was accused of raping a female student, the two others were given
dismissed over unprofessional conducts.
The
other two dismissed lecturers were Dr P. Akpoturi of Petroleum Engineering,
accused of gross misconduct arising from the conduct of 2013/2014 post-United
Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Dr R. K. Moruku, a senior
lecturer of the Department of Business Administration and Marketing, who was
accused of abuse of office and professional misconduct.
Ugo-Raphael,
who was said to have died five months ago after bagging his Ph.D, was
allegedly caught in a girls’ hostel while attempting to rape a female student
of his department.
The
accusation led to a disciplinary committee being set up to investigate the
veracity of the allegation against him by the school authorities until he
eventually died in October, 2014.
But
some of his colleagues are protesting the dismissal saying the deceased was not
given a fair hearing before he died.
