Hundreds Of Migrants Once Again Rescued Off Libyan Coast

 

The Italian coastguard has rescued 228 migrants off the Libyan coast in the Mediterranean Sea.

Reports said 38 women and one child were rescued in Friday’s recovery effort. Those rescued were transferred to a navy boat that was patrolling in the area.

Separately, 80 people were rescued by Tunisian fishermen and taken to the coastal town of Zarzis in Tunisia.

The latest rescue efforts  come after a tragic accident off the Catania coast in Italy just days ago, in which more than 800 people died.

Troops Flee As Boko Haram Retakes Marte Town In Bornu

Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have forced hundreds of soldiers to flee Marte, a border town along the shores of Lake Chad, a local official and witnesses said.

“The terrorists, numbering over 2,000, appeared from various directions on Thursday and engaged the soldiers in Kirenowa town and adjoining communities in Marte,” said Imamu Habeeb, a local community leader.

“They fought with soldiers over the night and the fight continued today (Friday), forcing hundreds of soldiers to flee,” he added from Borno State capital, Maiduguri.

A grandmother of five who decided to ink a tribute to her grandchildren was forced to undergo emergency surgery after the tattoo went horribly wrong.

 

Sally Lutkin, 49, of Kingston upon Hull, East Yorkshire, was bed-bound for a week after getting the names of grandkids Harvey, seven, Harvey Junior, six, and Cooper, one, tattooed on her left ankle in November 2013.

 

The tattoo quickly swelled up, forcing Sally to rush to A&E where she went under the knife to stop the infection spreading to her bone.

 

The horrific infection left a gruesome bloody hole in the middle of her rose design and she has been left with a lasting scar as a horrible reminder of her ordeal.

Breaking News: Earthquake measuring 7.5 magnitude strikes Nepal, rock cities in India

 
An earthquake measuring 7.5 magnitude struck 80 km (50 miles) east of Pokhara in Nepal on Saturday, about half way between the town and the capital Kathmandu, the US Geological Survey said.  Some witnesses also said any buildings have collapsed.

There was no immediate word on casualties. The quake was 31 km (19 miles) deep.

Former Federal Commissioner for Information, Chief Edwin Clark, has denied the rumours that he collapsed and died immediately the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, General Muhammadu Buhari, retd was declared winner of the March 28 Presidential election.

Clark, made the remarks while addressing journalists in Abuja, yesterday, said there was no basis for him to collapse and die because President Goodluck Jonathan lost the election against the backdrop that thenPresidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP who contested the election and lost, had conceded victory and congratulated Buhari who won at the polls.

Much of the church today is living a lie. Many of you have been told continuously that you are saved and headed for heaven. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Many of you are heading directly to hell. The systemised lying that is going on in the church has deceived the pastors and the people alike. It is a case of the blind leading the blind. 

You all need to pray – fervently because many of you are “lost”. No matter what you call me, no matter how you view this issue, no matter what position you have, no matter what church you attend, you have to admit that something is wrong with the church. 

Below are eight facts why the church is leading you straight to hell:
There is almost no evidence whatsoever that the early church had their “services” on a Sunday. They gathered together ‘from house to house’ virtually every day! People did not dress up and “go to church.” 

There were no denominations or separate groups with different ‘labels.’ They lived their lives together – And the apostles in Jerusalem preached everyday at a huge open-air gathering, not “hidden away” inside four walls. Church buildings do not exist in the Bible. They were invented around 200-300 AD, when the church was in serious decline. Church buildings are anti-New Testament, and they bring with them a host of problems and traditions. It was when the church fell into the hands of Rome that this concept of the “cathedral” took over. And today, we are still spending millions building these beautiful monuments while the worshippers are starving.

The presidency have ordered the removal of all Jonathan/Sambo campaign materials which still adorn the environment in preparation for the inauguration of the incoming administration.   Read the State House press statement below.

With the 2015 presidential elections now concluded and the country preparing for the inauguration of a new administration on May 29, President Goodluck Jonathan believes that it is appropriate that steps be taken to restore the environment in Nigerian cities, towns and villages to their pre-elections campaign state.

Accordingly, President Jonathan directs that the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation and the various associations that coalesced into the Jonathan/Sambo Support Group immediately begin the process of removing the posters, billboards, banners, signs and other campaign materials in support of his re-election bid which still adorn the landscape in major cities across the country.

The President thanks all individuals and organisations who made sincere contributions and worked with immense dedication for the Jonathan/ Sambo Campaign. He applauds his supporters and other Nigerians for the disciplined, patriotic and democratic manner in which they comported themselves before, during and after the elections.

Now that the elections are over except for re-runs in a few states, President Jonathan urges Nigerians to put the recent political campaigns behind them and join hands with the incoming administration in working for a more united, peaceful, stable and progressive nation.

PDP will regrat giving Buruji Kashamu Senatorial Ticket - Festus Keyamo

 

Lagos-based lawyer, Mr. Festus Keyamo, says the Peoples Democratic Party goofed by presenting Buruji Kashamu as its senatorial candidate in the Ogun-East senatorial election.

Keyamo said this during a programme titled “Legal angle on Nigeria Info FM,” which aired yesterday.

He said Kashamu, who has been accused of drug trafficking in the United States, may spend more time facing probes than attending sessions at the National Assembly and may be forced to vacate his seat.

Keyamo said although Kashamu had a right to contest since he had not been convicted of any crime, the PDP should not have fielded him as a candidate for moral reasons.

The minister said: “Let me state it clearly for the records that Nigeria is my country and am not going anywhere. I love my country and I do think that I have done the best for my country and I would also like to point out that these malicious, malevolence, vindictive libels coming out of places like Osun Defender and other faceless online and other entities need to stop.

 

“For everything that has a beginning there is an end and that is not a surprise. What is the surprise is the sort of malevolence bordering on personal malicious libel to my person during this period of time.

Kidnapper Shot Dead While Picking Up N3M Ransom

 

 

A suspected kidnapper, Niyi Omosola, has been shot dead by the police in the Epe area of Lagos.

It was learnt that Omosola was shot dead during a rescue operation by the police to free a victim, identified simply as Kudirat.

It was gathered that Omosola, while collecting the ransom, sighted the police and decided to escape on a motorcycle when the operatives fired him.

Omosola, who hailed from Ondo State, allegedly led a gang which kidnapped the woman in the Elemoro, Ajah area.

Sixty-two-year-old Kudirat was reportedly abducted by the gang on Thursday, April 16, at about 7pm.

Chief Ebenezer Babatope, member board of trustee of PDP while speaking with newsmen yesterday stated that PDP will not feature the outgoing President Jonathan as its presidential candidate in 2019.

 

Babatope said, instead the party would shop for a strong Hausa/Fulani candidate who will run against Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 presidential election.

 

He described President Jonathan as a leader who has uplifted the nation’s democracy and that history will forever remember him as a leader who kept Nige

ria as one despite several challenges.

With further reference to 2019, Babatope said, ‘’We have a strong presence in the South-South, South-East and we have two governors in the South-West. We are going to slug it out together in the North in 2019. We are going to flush out the APC in 2019 because we are going to correct our mistakes and take back the central government.”

The parents of Britain's youngest organ donor say their son "lived and died a hero" after the infant's kidneys saved the life of a patient with renal failure.

 

Doctors told mother Jess Evans during her 12th week of pregnancy that one of the twin sons she was carrying suffered a fatal condition which stops the brain and skull from developing.

 

She and her fiance Mike Houlston were told their baby would either be stillborn or die shortly after birth.

In an interview with the Daily Mirror, the couple from Cardiff said they decided to allow the infant's kidneys and heart valves to be donated to save the lives of others.
