A
domestic worker was filmed beating her employer’s seven moth old baby boy in
Welkom, Free State, South Africa.
The woman, Mafsehediso
Lisbeth Makashea, was arrested in December after the mother viewed footage from
a nanny-cam she had set up in the living room.
The footage shows Makashea
slapping the young chld because he was crying, shoving his head on the floor
and pulling him up by his shirt.
According to police
spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Thando Mbambo, the mother was out shopping with
her six-year old child on 21 December when the incident happened.
The mother told the
publication she had had bad experience with domestic workers in the past, and
set up a camera to view Makashea’s interactions with her baby for peace of
mind.
The domestic worker
appeared in court on 23 December where she was released on R1000 bail.
Her next appearance is on
29 January.
