A middle aged man, Adamu Abdullahi, was on Thursday,
sentenced to a 15-year jail term by a Bauchi State High Court sitting in
Bauchi, the state capital, for raping a seven-year-old girl.
The convict, who was dragged before the court,
presided over by Bauchi State Chief Judge, Justice Rabi T. Umar, by the state
Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Dauda Yakubu, was said to have raped the
minor, names withheld.
According to the charge preferred against him by the
state, his offence was contrary to Section 282 of the Criminal Law and
punishable by life imprisonment under Section 283 of the law.
Delivering her judgment in the matter, Justice Umar
said the accused was found guilty on the ground that his voluntary confessional
statement corroborated with the oral evidence tendered by the victim in which,
she explained clearly how the convict forced her in to his room and had canal
knowledge of her.
According to the presiding judge, as a result the
action of the convict, the victim was injured in her private part.
Justice Umar added that the medical examination report
released from the hospital confirmed that the little girl sustained injury in
her private part as a result of rape.
After listening to the plea for leniency by the
counsel for the accused, Dahiru Abdulhamid, the judge sentenced Abdullahi to 15
years in prisons, adding that the term commenced from March 5, 2012 when he was
arraigned in court.
