Boko Haram: 13,000 Nigerians crossed over to Cameroon in October as refugees

According to a UN Refugee Agency report, violence by Boko Haram made 13,000 to flee Adamawa State into Cameroon after the insurgents attacked and captured the town of Mubi in October.  The refugees arrived Cameroon in over 300 vehicles.  The Cameroonian authorities were said to have provided escort and security to ensure the safety of those transiting through the Cameroonian territory.
 
 
 

The report also stated that the vast majority of these refuges are women and children.  Many families were forced to flee on foot, taking few belongings with them and walking tens of kilometres in other to find safety.
 
UNHCR said they are also examining claims that some of these refugees may have been forced to return to Nigeria.  But that they are seeking assurances from both Nigerian and Cameroon that the return of these people were voluntary.
