Banjo Omotosho, 35, and his wife Ebun, 29 are currently standing trial before the Somolu Magistrate Court for allegedly forging a death certificate and his wife attempting to use same to defraud an insurance company of N1.08millon.
It was gathered that Banjo had taken a life insurance policy in May 2014 from the insurance company under another name Ojo Alabi Kingsley and made his wife Ebun as the next of kin.
However, by August, Ebun approached the insurance company claiming that Banjo died in an accident and want to claim the benefit of the N1.08million attached to the policy. She tendered a forged death certificate signed by a Dr. Lawal and dated May 29.
The insurance company who was said to be in the final stages of verification of claim got to know about the scam when residents of the purported address where Banjo had lived denied knowing them.
They were arrested and charged to court on three count of conspiracy, forging and intent to defraud, which are offences punishable under sections 361, 21 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State
