Town of Chibok recaptured by Nigeria Army from Boko Haram

In a press release by the Nigeria Army, the north eastern town of Chibok which was captured by the insurgents last week Thursday was recaptured yesterday evening by the  troops of the 7 Division Nigerian Army.
 
Spokesman for the military, General Olajide Olaleye said ''mopping up ops is on going.  The town is now secured''.
 
 

Pogu Bitrus, an elder in Chibok said the town was retaken in a joint operation involving the town vigilantes know as Civilian Joint Tasks Force and the military.  The vigilantes were said to have fought inside the town while the military were stationed outside to mop up  the insurgents who tried to escape.
 
The insurrection by Boko Haram which want to create an Islamic state in mainly Muslim northern Nigeria has claimed more than 10,000 lives in the past five years.  They have seized more than 20 towns and villages in the north eastern part of Nigeria.
