Another lock down has been imposed on the northern Port Loko
in Sierra Leone in an attempt to halt the spread of the deadly Ebola fever
virus in the country, said Information Minister Alpha Kanu. This
time, residents in northern Port Loko are prevented from travelling.
“There will be no travelling from this part of the country.
No one will go in or out of Port Loko,” said Kanu on a radio programme.
The minister said food would be distributed to families in
the affected region.
The lock down is expected to last until the number of Ebola
cases begins to decline.
More than 2580 people in Sierra Leone have been killed by
the haemorrhagic fever that is still on the rampage in West Africa.
Last week the government banned Christmas and New Year’s Eve
celebrations, with soldiers deployed to the streets to make sure everyone
abided by the rules. The rate of spread of the virus is rising fast in the
country, where more than half of the 19 500 confirmed cases have been reported.
A total of 7588 people have died since the outbreak began in
Guinea a year ago.
