The
suspect Mr. Friday Chibueze,
and his pregnant wife, Amauche Chibueze, were into the business of stealing new
born babies from hospitals in connivance with nurses working in such hospitals.
While
being interrogated by the police, the suspects mentioned three nurses, Ogechi
Okoye of Reigns Hospital, Igboukwu, Ebubechukwu Okpalu of Healthcare Center,
Nnobi, and Eberechukwu Okala of Chidera Specialist Hospital, Uga, as
accomplices.
Investigation
is ongoing for the arrest of one Ezenwanyi who is alleged to be in possession
of all the stolen babies.
One
of the syndicate suspects, Ogechi Okoye, admitted that a baby was stolen from
their hospital while she was on duty but denied any involvement in the crime.
The
police commissioner made it clear that with the huge resources expended by the
state government to secure lives and property of the citizens across the
state, the police were determined to live up to expectation of ridding the
state of crime and criminality
