The police authorities at the Oregbeni Police Station, Ikpoba Hill, Edo State are currently fuming over the beating and stripping naked of three of their colleagues (policewomen) by a group of persons at the Oregbeni Quarters.
The policewomen were said to have gone on the invitation of a landlady who wanted one of her tenants arrested.
Trouble started when the tenants who they met having her birth insisted on finishing with her bath before following them to the station. Fracas broke out when the police officers refused and insisted the lady must follow them. Other residents in the area were said to have joined the tenant to beat up the policewomen.
The landlady Mrs. Okebuse said she invited the police because she had given the tenant quit notice. She said, ''When the police came to make arrest, they started fighting the police women. I ran for my life and hid at the next compound.''
State Police Commissioner, Foluso Adebayo expressed disappointment at the attack saying the police will make sure those involved face the full wrath of the law.
The affected policewomen are currently at the hospital receiving treatment.
