An aide to the Borno State Governor, Juniad Khadi and other six close
associates of Australian self-styled negotiator, Stephen Davis were arrested
and paraded yesterday by the Department of State Security Service.
The seven were arrested in connection with organising a fake cease fire
agreement between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Boko Haram
insurgents. The suspects were said to have collected millions of naira
from the Federal Government while giving the impression that they were members
of the dreaded sect interested in a ceasefire.
Those arrested include Abubakar Yusuf (a.k.a. Baba Sani); Saleh Ibrahim (a.k.a Liman Ibrahim; Abdullahi Saleh (a.k.a Babadale); Nurudeen Ibrahim; Mubarak Adamu (a.k.a. Molo); and Mustapha Maidugu (a.k.a Musty/Small).
According to Marilyn Ogar, the Deputy Director, Public Relations of DSS, the allegations of Stephen Davis that the former Borno State governor, Ali Modu Sheriff and Lt. Gen. Azubuike were sponsoring Boko Haram led the DSS to initiate a comprehensive investigation into the issue.
It was during the investigation, it was found that the seven suspects were part of a well-orchestrated plan to spread falsehood, undermine and discredit the efforts of the government to end terrorism in the country.
Ogar described the Australian negotiator, Stephen Davis and his cohorts as part of several local and international group bent on making money off the Boko Haram insurgency in the country.
Junaid Khadi, 45-year-old Kanuri man from Borno State confessed to have known Stephen Davis since 2006. And state that he, one Gen, Ashafa and Davis had embarked on a journey to a remote part of Marte Local Government Area of Borno State in a false mission to rescue the Chibok girls.
