Buhari's plane refused landing rights at Makurdi airport

A chartered plane that was conveying the All Progressive Congress Presidential aspirant, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari to Makurdi was said to have been refused lading at the Makurdi airport yesterday.

Buhari who visited Bayelsa State as part of his mobilization of party members ahead of All Progressive Congress presidential primaries slated for this month, was initially cleared for landing at the airport.  But 30 minutes to landing, the aircraft was told it would no longer be able to land.

Party members led by State Chairman Abba Yaro who had come to the airport to welcome him all left disappointed.  Yaro in reacting to the incident said, ''We will certainly react to this ugly incident because what they have done was not only callous and wicked but also unacceptable in modern day Nigeria.''

Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) spokesman, Mr. Yakubu Datti said the aviation authorities have no control over the Makurdi Airport.  According to him, the airport is being controlled by the military.
