He was killed for ritual purpose - Ibe Onyike, Ibo commuinty leader in Ikorodu

Eje Ebi, 25years, was in the Ikorodu area of Lagos machete to death by one Adesina Osinowo, a cobbler.

The victim met his death when the suspect wanted to dispossess him of some money he was taking to the market to purchase goods.

The victim who was said to be previously living in Jos with his family had to relocate in 2014 due to the insurgency in the north.  Azubike, his brother, said he took his family to Afikpo, Ebonyi State to live while he tries to make money for their upkeep by selling fairly-used clothes at the Ikorodu motor park.

Azubuike said on Thursday morning while Ebi was on his way to buy new consignment of fairly-used clothes to sell, Osinowo who had been monitory him attacked him and dispossessed him of his money, phones and other valuables.

The suspect who was arrested by security men in the area was later handed over to the police.  He is currently being detained at the Igbogbo police station.

The Igbo Community Leader in Ikorodu Chief Ibe Onyike said he suspected Ebi was killed for ritual purpose.

He said, “This is not the first time they will kill people in that roundabout, especially strangers.
“Every morning, you wake up to see freshly slaughtered goats and fowls.  “That spot serves fetish purpose for the indigenes of this area.''

“After Eje was slaughtered there, more than 400 people gathered and wanted to start a riot that could have consumed Ikorodu, but I told my people to exercise patience.  “If things don’t change for the better, we may not continue to sit down and look.”

The deceased body has been deposited in a mortuary in Ikorodu.
