Abductors released Delta State University lecturer, insist on ransom before releasing brother

A lecturer Dr. Nyaerohovwo Tonukari of the Delta State university, Abraka, who was abducted 45 days ago on his way from Sapele to school, has been released by his abductors. However, his younger brother, Tega, who was also abducted with him, was not released.
Tonukari’s release came a day after the institution’s Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) protested at the Government House, Asaba, and at the Office of the Police Commissioner, to draw attention to the plight of their colleague.

After his release yesterday, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eric Arubaye, and ASUU-DELSU Chairman, Prof Abel Diakparomre, expressed happiness over the release, disclosing that the abducted don was picked up at about 3a.m yesterday near a thick bush in the Orogun area.
Diakparomre said he was not aware if any ransom was paid for his release but pleaded with the kidnappers to release the lecturer’s younger brother, who they allegedly accused of wasting time in paying the ransom demanded, which his brother Dr. Nyaerohvwo Tonukari was negotiating to pay.
