A Westchester County church is regrouping to gather donations after
someone stole $20,000 in contributions from the office during Christmas Day
Mass.
The thief apparently pried open a back door during the 11 a.m. Mass at the Church of the Magdalene in Tarrytown, the Journal News reported.
Then the thief got into a desk drawer holding donations collected during two Masses on Christmas Eve.

The Rev. Joseph Dietz said the stolen money represents about a fifth of the
annual operating budget for the 400-family parish.
He said many parishioners canceled their stolen checks and are writing new ones.
Dietz said he “would like to talk with the person involved in this.”
