A visit to an Ebola country earns you 21-day detention in the US

Kaci Hickox, the nurse that has been placed under mandatory quarantine since arriving from Sierra Leone on Friday has said her basic human rights have been violated.  And that the present situation she has been placed is inhumane and unacceptable.

She said she is physically strong but emotionally exhausted.  ''To put me through this emotional and physical stress is completely unacceptable'' she said.  She slammed New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie  for describing her as ''obviously ill''. ''For him to make a statement that is categorically not true is just unacceptable and appalling''.  ''For the first 12 hours I was in shock.  Now I am angry'' she said.

But Gov. Christie in his reaction says,  "I'm sorry if in any way she was inconvenienced, but inconvenience that could occur from having folks that are symptomatic and ill out amongst the public is a much, much greater concern of mine. I hope she recovers quickly."

Hickox arrived Newark Liberty Airport on Friday afternoon and after a seven hour wait at the hospital was put in an isolation tent with a window and everyone including medical personnel interact with her through the tent window. She's not allowed to have her luggage and was given paper scrubs to wear. She has no shower, no flushable toilet, and the hospital gave her no television or any reading material Mostly, she says, she stares at the walls. She's not allowed to see her lawyer, or anyone else  She has tested negative to the Ebola virus twice.

She said she is fine and her temperature so far has been normal.  But she is worried that her experience might discourage other health workers who would have loved to volunteer to help out with the Ebola crisis in West Africa.
