Britian officially end Afghanistan combat mission

Britain ended its combat operations in the Helmand province of Afghanistan.  The UK troops witnessed the lowering of the Union flag for the last time at the Camp Bastion complex in Helmand which they shared with the US marines.
 
Every marine and British troop will soon board planes and head home.  Thought exact dates was not disclosed for security reasons.
 


Camp Bastion has been the centre of the UK mission in Afghanistan since 2006.  The hand over of the base to the Afghanistan control, ends an important chapter in the 13 year Afghanistan campaign which started after the terrorist attacks on the US in 2001.
 
United Kingdom defence secretary Michael Fallon said they are proud to have helped Afghanistan to achieve the best possible chance of a stable future.
 
Britain suffered 453 fatalities throughout the war period.
