N50m spent to buy beds for Fayemi and his wife - Fayose

In a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday and signed by Lere Olayink, the Special Assistant on information and social media; Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose has accused his predecessor, Dr. Kayode Fayose of living an extravagant lifestyle by spending N50m on their beds during his stay in the government house.

The statement also described the government house (built with N3.3.b) as an act of insensitivity to the plight of the Ekiti people.

He claimed that the former governor's bed was bought at N30m while that of his wife cost N20m.  Total amount found spent on their bedroom, toilets and bathrooms was in a region of N100m.

He said it is disheartening and an act of wickedness that the former governor who could not pay workers salaries for two months, pension and gratuities, bonuses could be spending so much to sustain his lavish lifestyle while in government.

The statement also stated that the former governor was already making plans to acquire a helicopter if he had returned to the office for a 2nd term.

Dr, Fayemi's media aid however dismissed these allegations by Fayose saying, “I have taken a guided tour of that place and I don’t think I have seen such an outcry.  “I don’t know where they got their figures from; it sounds absurd. I ‘ll advise them to stop this theatre of absurd. Governance is a serious business and I am appealing to them not to reduce it to a joke.  “They are turning Ekiti into a circus show and they should stop it. It is childish and puerile for them to have come up with that figure. There is nothing ostentatious about Dr. Fayemi’s lifestyle: the lodge is there as a property of the state.
“Whether Fayose stays there or not is his cup of tea. The new government house is a legacy building. Dr. Fayemi did not go with it to Isan-Ekiti; it is for the state. It is not about personal aggrandisement; it is a befitting edifice for the state. Go to other states of the federation and see their government houses. Ekiti state deserves the best.”
