Morocco ban from African Cup of Nations for refusing to host tournament

Morocco who was to host the 2015 African Cu of Nations  have had its hosting rights stripped and ban from participating in the tournament in 2015.

CAF has said the tournament will be hosted by another country.  Though it is yet to mention any particular country.  But said applications from possible replacement have been received and are under review.

Morocco had written to CAF to postpone the tournament to 2016 citing the Ebola crisis that has been ravaging West Africa and has killed at least 5,000 people and infected more than 10,000.

CAF refused, insisting that the tournament must go ahead as scheduled, 12th January to 8th February 2015.

CAF's executive decision making committee said apart from the automatic disqualification of Morocco for its refusal to host the tournament, other sanctions will also be placed on them

Other countries like South Africa, Ghana, Egypt, Sudan have all been approached to replace Morocco.  But all declined.

Morocco who insisted that he will not go back on its decision not to host the tournament  said it only fear possible spread of Ebola through tens of thousands of football supporters who will travel for three weeks to cheer their country's team.

Meanwhile, Morocco have decided to go ahead and continue its hosting duties to the FIFA Club World Cup next month featuring Champions League winner Real Madrid.  It said it does not expect many supporters to travel from Ebola affected countries.
