Dying 11-year-old girl's dream come true

Dying 11-year-old Ashanti Smiths desperate dream to have flowing hair like her school friends had come true after strangers donated hundreds of pounds to buy her a new wig.

Ashanti who suffers from a rare aging disease, Hutchinson Gilford Progenies , is not expected to live past the age of 15.

She could not hide her delight as she had her glossy new blonde locks styled at a top hairdresser - Brighton branch of Trevor Sorbie accompanied by her mother Phoebe and sister Minnie.

Trevor himself helped choose and styled the wig.  The three women also enjoyed  a posh meal at Donatello Italian restaurant.

Ashanti's mum, Phoebe said Ashanti was so excited about her new wig that she did not go to sleep for ages.  ''She loves doing those girly things.  It is also nice because we can actually do something together,'' she said.

Few months back, Ashanti was forced to remove her pink wig she wore to school as school authorities claimed it might encourage other children to dye their hair.  Her mother said the incident devastated the little girl to the extent she didn't want to return back to school.

The Argus Appeal - a charitable arm of the Argus newspaper help raised the funds for the wig for the school girl.
