Nigeria, US military relationship experiences another set-back

The relationship between Nigeria and the US as regards the US assistance to quell the Boko Haram insurgency is said to have suffered another set back.  The reason being that the US trainers are being accused of inciting the Nigerian soldiers to mutiny as a result of the negative teachings they received from the US trainers.

But the US Press Attaché at the US Embassy Abuja, Sean J. Mchitosh, said the whole allegation are baseless.  He said the third phase of the training did not occur because the Nigerian Army failed to provide the necessary equipment for the third phase training.

The US as well as other western countries had offered help to Nigeria since the rise of the insurgency in the country.  But Nigeria relationship with the US suffered a set back when the US refused to sell some military hardware like the Cobra helicopter to Nigeria.

The Nigerian source also said the Federal Government doubts the genuineness of the US to assist in solving the security situation in the country.  He said despite their presence in the country no noticeable impact on the task of recovering the abducted girls of the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok.
