A 63-year-old woman was killed and five others injured when a French military jet crashed into a care home and turned it a fireball in the town of Vouvray, near Tours in France.
Two pilots that were in the jet ejected and parachuted to safety after flying into a dark area which appeared to be uninhabited, said Air force Commander Cyril Duvivier.
The two pilots (one said to be a student) are uninjured, but still have been taken to the hospital for a routine check-up.
75 people (mostly old people) are said to be inhabiting the home. Col. Duvivier said the plane had been on a night training flight with an instructor and a trainee pilot.
He also stated that the Alpha jet was usually very reliable and that this particular one had been in service for about 30 years.
