Fake EFCC syndicate in Ondo State nabbed

According to an official press release from the EFCC office, a deadly syndicate of fraudsters with their head office at Akure, Ondo State  from where they operate are currently in EFCC net.

Arrested head of this syndicate, who parades himself as a Principal Detective of the EFCC is identified as Olubunmi Olalekan.

The syndicate who sends out bulk invitation letters to as many government agencies as possible will claim to be investigating alleged corruption petitions against such agencies.  They then asked to be reached by a telephone number on the letter.  Those who fall for this scam are then asked to pay certain amount of money for the case to be dropped.

Some of the government agencies who saw through this scam immediately alerted the EFCC who then arrested Olubunmi Olalekan in a staged sting operation carried out by EFCC in collaboration with Dr. Asunyikanmu Pius, Director of technical Corps Abuja , who was one of their targets.

Dr. Asunyikanmu was asked by Olalekan and his fellow accomplices to pay two million naira into a Skye bank account.  But before Olalekan could withdraw the money, he was arrested.

Found in his possession were fake letter head paper of the commission, 30 gsm sim cards, different complimentary cards, a laptop, printer etc.

Olalekan accomplices, Alhaji Yero and Mr. Bako are currently at large.

The commission once again informs the general public that no letter of invitation from their office will ask anybody to contact any of their officers by telephone.  Instead such invitation will state that such a  person should report directly/physically at their office.
