Lulu Mnguni, the South African ambassador to Nigeria in a press conference has confirmed the return of both the $9.3m and $5.7m seized from some Nigerians for the alleged purchase of arms back to Nigeria.
The above money which South African authorities claimed then was suspected to be for illegal transactions were seized when some Nigerians enters South Africa carrying the funds as cash.
Mnguni also spoke on the collapsed six storey building at the Synagogue church in which more than 90 South Africans died saying the incident will only make the two nations stronger since both nations have come a long way. ''South Africa’s relations with Nigeria has come a long way, so this actually will make us much closer, to see how we can close some of these gaps that result in such accidents,” he said.
He refuted claims that the seized fund was related to the synagogue incident saying, “South Africa’s relation with Nigeria is priceless; it cannot be sold for $15m,” he said.
