Resign now or face impeachment! PDP to Hon. Tambuwal

The speaker of the House of Representatives has been called upon to tender in his resignation since he has defected to the opposition party or face impeachment.

Tambuwal who gave reasons for defecting to the opposition from the PDP says new developments in the Sokoto chapter of the PDP and calls from members of his constituency necessitated his defection.

The defection ended months of speculation over his political future.  It has also thrown up questions on whether he would resign, be impeached or remain on his seat as the Speak of the House.

To be impeached, it will require 2/3 of the members of the house to sign the impeachment notice to remove him.  At present despite the fact that PDP is in majority in the house (200 member out of 360 members) they will require a total of 240 member of the house to do this.

Indications from the PDP National Working Committee says they expect the Speaker as a responsible elected officer on the PDP platform to resign honourably or face impeachment.

The minority Leader of APC, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila said during a press conference that Hon. Tambuwal remains first and foremast a member of the house and that the constitution clearly states that members of the house shall elect from among themselves a speaker.  He called the speaker a bridge builder, speaker for all members of the house, all political parties and for all Nigerians..  And that he shall continue to do so with all their support.
