Fire struck in a Lagos apartment killing couple's three children

This is a terrible times for Mr. and Mrs. Ilori.  Tragedy struck when a fire engulfed their apartment killing their three children Daniel (10 years), Temiloluwa (7years) and Darasinmi (eight months old).

It was gathered that the fire started after their mother who came back from a church programme at about 10pm on that fateful day, lit a candle to illuminate the room, locked the door and went outside to pick the clothes she had washed and put out to dry earlier in the day.  But within few minutes, it was noticed that the apartment had been engulfed by fire.

Residents in the area said they tried to make rescue efforts but the fire overtook the whole apartment within minutes.  It was also said that  seven-year-old  Temiloluwa woke up and tried to carry her eight-month-old baby sister out, but that when they got to the living room, the ceiling collapsed on them and they fell.

Residents also had bad report about the Lagos State Fire Service whom they accused of coming late to the scene without the necessary tools sledgehammer, ladder and even fire extinguisher to fight the fire.

But the Director of Lagos State Service, Rasaq Fadipe, said his men did not get the alert of the fire outbreak on time.  And that when they arrived the scene they meant the fire well alight.  He had to deploy fire trucks from Isolo and Sari-Iganmu fire stations.

Fadipe also accused the youths on ground of being overzealous in trying to take over the equipment from his men and in the process destroyed some of the equipment.

The bodies of the children have been deposited in the mortuary and Mr. and Mrs. Ilori taken to a family residence.
