Former Governor of Taraba State reinstated by the Supreme Court

The Supreme court has ordered the immediate reinstatement of the Deputy Governor of Taraba State, Alhaji Sanni Abubakar Danladi who was impeached by the Taraba State House of Assembly in October 2012.

The Supreme court in an unanimous decision stated that the impeachment panel set up by the House of Assembly violated the right to fair hearing of Danladi.

Justice Sylvester Ngwuta held that there was conspiracy between the Taraba High Court and the impeachment panel to frustrate Alhaji Danladi.  He said apart from the judgements of both the court of Appeal and the Taraba State High court which both dismissed Danladi's suits, the two courts should have resolved the issue of fair hearing in favour of Danladi.

Danladi was impeached a month before the governor of the state, Suntai was involve in a plane crash.  The impeachment panel set up to hear allegations levied against him was said to have concluded its hearing without hearing from Danladi.  While the court papers he produced to challenge the composition of the panel were disregarded.
