UK in shortage of school teachers, looking to recruit from abroad

UK schools are now facing a terrible challenge in recruiting teachers for their schools due to shortfall of teachers.

They are now thinking of turning to overseas countries such as Australia, Canada and Irish Republic in search of trained teachers.

Despite 25,000 bursaries offered to top trainees, the Association of College Leaders, Deputy General Secretary Malcolm Trobe said, head teachers across the country had been describing the recruitment situation as, a ''ghastly''  ''really difficult'' and a ''disaster''.  He said from Durham, Taunton, in the South, East the story was the same.  Schools found it extremely difficult to recruit teachers

He said he has suggested both long and short-term solutions to the government, such as recruiting from abroad being one of the major strategy that can be adopted.

Analysis by John Howson, of the Data Education shows a shortfall of over 6,000 teachers, which built up over two years.  And they said the situation might most likely get worse.
