Keith Martin, the fattest man in the world dies, aged 44

The world fattest man, British Keith Martin who weighed 70 stone (444.5 kg) is dead.  He died of pneumonia aged 44 years.

Keith had been bed-bound, unable to walk and at a point had not left his North London home for 10 years.

He was at his heaviest consuming a total of 20,000 calories a day.  His daily food consumption includes six egg fry ups for breakfast, then pizzas, kebabs, Chinese takeaways and Big Mac for lunch and dinner, all washed down with six pints of coffee and two litres of fizzy drinks.

Last year in a bid to save his life, he had three quarters of his stomach removed and he lost half his body weight.  And the doctors said if he had lived, he would have lost hundreds of his weight and regained his ability to walk and live a normal life.

Before his surgery, Keith admitted much of his weight had come from eating huge amounts of super cheap fast food.

His surgery was filmed for Documentary 5.  Before the surgery he was able to drop 25 stone (158 kg) having been placed on a 2000 calorie diet a day.

But just a week after the procedure, against medical advise, he discharged himself from the hospital saying he was homesick.  But was later rushed back due to complications.

He spent four months in the hospital before being released in February 2014, his weight had dropped to 39 stone (247 kg)

Keith's weight ballooned after he became depressed in his twenties.  He blamed the bingeing on depression after losing his mother at age 16 to pneumonia.
