Boko Haram planning to bomb Apapa sea port - Police

The Nigerian Police Command has raised alarm over threat by the Boko Haram sect to bomb the Apapa sea port Lagos.

Mrs. Hilda Ibifuno-Harrison, Commissioner of Police in Charge of the Western Commands stated this at the inauguration of the new executives of the Maritime Reporter Association of Nigeria.

She said it was based on intelligence report received three months back, that the deadly sect could be planning to bomb Lagos and possible also target the port.  She said the port authorities were taking the threat serious and enjoined everyone who visits the port to be on alert.

She said, “We are not taking the threat lightly at all and we encourage all stakeholders who visit the port to keep their eyes and ears open in case of the activity of the sect,”

She also said as part of measures put in place, security had been beefed up within Lagos including the port.

It will be recalled that July 25, 2014, four people lost their lives when two explosives suspected to have been from improvised explosive device went off at the Folawiyo Energy Depot.
