Two boys aged 11 and 13 have been taken back to South Africa after the arrest of their mother in Portugal for drug trafficking

Two South African boys aged 11 and 13 years whose mother was arrested in Portugal for trafficking drugs from Brazil to Portugal have been taken back to South Africa.

The boys who last saw their mother December 2013 had lived on the street of Sao Paolo Brazil for  up to 9 months before they were rescued by the South African embassy and taken back home.

Spokes person for the Social Development of South Africa, Lumka Oliphant said both boys would be placed in foster care. They had different fathers, neither of whom was South African.
"The mother has nominated a foster parent. Her wish was that we take the children to the foster parents. We will follow her wishes because we look at the interests of the children", she said.
The foster parents lived in KwaZulu-Natal and an assessment would be done before the boys were placed with them.
